    TEAM NEWS
Younes Kaboul is suspended for Sunderland's League Cup tie against Manchester City after being sent off at Bournemouth at the weekend.

Skipper John O'Shea, who missed that trip through illness, is available, but Adam Matthews (ankle) is still out.

Eliaquim Mangala is a doubt for City after being taken off against West Ham and David Silva has a calf problem.

Young forwards Kelechi Iheanacho and Patrick Roberts could feature, as could Spanish full-back Pablo Maffeo.

    MATCH FACTS
    • The two sides have met three times previously in the League Cup, most recently in the 2014 final, won 3-1 by Man City.
    • The Black Cats have won six of their previous seven home League Cup games, scoring 19 goals in the process.
    • City have scored in 16 consecutive away League Cup games, stretching back to the third round in 2003-04.
    • The previous five all-Premier League League Cup ties at the Stadium of Light have ended 2-1, with Sunderland winning three.

Thank you for the informative post. It's on BeIN Sports in the US. Doesn't sound like I'm going to get the Sterling/Yedlin matchup I was hoping for. Doesn't really matter who City puts out there. It's going to be great.

Sunderland will have the first team on the pitch who owe the supporters a performance after the start we've had.

There's been enough to suggest there's a basis of a team there so another 'practice match' can't hurt.

It's pointless hoping for a cup win .......... Ashley has already promised the Mags they'll win and they believed him, so that's that.

I wouldn't want to get to the final and lose to them <doh>

Catts or Larsson or maybe even both of them should get a run out imo.

Have you seen something in him I haven't this year? I've lost faith in him I'm afraid. Unless Advocaat has seen an amazing change in training, I wouldn't bother.
There's an argument for changing things around in a cup game (see below), but there's also an argument for keeping the same side as far as poss to give them time to gel, get fitness back up etc.
If I was to give anyone more of a run out it would be Watmore and other youngsters, plus Yedlin.

Not really. Guess i dont really want to write him off. When maybe i should.

For this game id like to see Rodwrll at cb.

Also id like to see a front three of.

    ..... Lens. .Borini......AJ....

    Just out of curiosity.

Can't argue with trying out new things, just can't see the point of reverting back to the old when that hasn't worked, although I take your point about not wanting to give up on Catts. Trouble is, he doesn't look that talented anymore against others we've now got in midfield, so he needs to excel in effort and organising & motivating others.

Sure I've seen Catts in the side this year.

Pelegrini cannot put out a weakened team !, but who will Dick start ? I say get back to 4-4-2 and bring Johnson back.
