Steve Bruce will make changes to his side for Tuesday night’s Capital One Cup Third Round tie against Swansea City in a bid to freshen up his team.

Admitting that his players looked a little ‘leggy’ in Saturday’s 1-1 draw with QPR, a game which came on the back of long away trips to Brighton & Hove Albion and Cardiff City, changes are afoot for the visit of the Swans.

“We looked a bit leggy (on Saturday), but that is the Championship,” said Bruce.

“I’ll definitely be making changes on Tuesday night because we’re going to have to be fresh coming up against a Premier League team.”

It means that the likes of Ahmed Elmohamady, Ryan Taylor, Isaac Hayden and Chuba Akpom could be recalled to the starting eleven while young striker Greg Luer will be hoping for another opportunity to impress having scored in victories over Accrington Stanley and Rochdale in the previous two rounds of this season’s competition. U21 regulars Calaum Jahraldo-Martin and Matty Dixon could also be included in the squad.

Jake Livermore is also in contention for a first appearance of the season, but Adama Diomande (groin) and Robert Snodgrass remain sidelined.

Swans’ boss Garry Monk is also set to make changes for the game, although he is unlikely to make a wholesale 11 changes as he did for their second round victory against York City last month.

Swedish goalkeeper Kristoffer Nordfeldt, French U21 international Franck Tabanou and Portugal striker Eder could all be included, along with veteran midfielder Leon Britton.

I would go with this, gives everyone a run out on the fringes. Be interesting to see if Swansea chop and change or take it seriously.

I don't think you'll be far out with this team.

Swansea boss Garry Monk to field strong XI against Hull City

Swansea boss Garry Monk intends to field a strong side for Tuesday night's Capital One Cup clash with Hull City.

Monk made 11 changes from his regular Premier League starting XI when they beat York City 3-0 in the second round last month.

Monk is likely to rotate once again, but with Hull - who have climbed into the top three in the Championship - providing a much sterner test than York, some first team players are likely to take the field.

Taylor definitely needs a run out but if he plays right-back this match we will get annihilated by Swanseas pacey wingers, even their ressies

I also think you will not be far out with this, though he may go with McGregor in goal against a EPL side.

I wondered if Livermore might get some minutes under his belt, not sure if he has played for the U21's yet?

Despite what Monk says I think we'll have only a handful of our first 11 starting.

Whoever he selects will almost certainly be up against a mostly second string eleven - the games come too thick and fast in the championship to play the bulk of the first team. Not something YOU have to worry about!

Bruce has said he could make the bench (there hasn't been an U21 game since he returned).

With another international break in 2 weeks time lets see just what Jake has got in the tank.

3 - 5 - 2 with the some of the U21's on the bench. They don't have a game this week,.

imo, Max Clark - Matty Dixon - CJM should be on the bench.

I'd go with this. Am interested to see how Townsend does as he's been great for the u-21s. Luer/Akpom should combine well up front with Maloney making runs into the box. Give Jake 30 minutes to see if he's ready. Please no Taylor at RB!!

    Agreed.

Taylor's not really a right back.

Actually, thinking about it, Taylor's not really a footballer.

He reminds me of one of those comic-strip footballers that would get picked because they were good at free-kicks and nothing else, looking like another bad signing to me but who knows- he might bang in a hat-trick of free-kicks tomorrow and justify his selection

I saw Taylor play several times for Newcastle last season and his free kicks were probably the worst I saw on any team ...absolutely atrocious. I know the man was once a decent player but he clearly has not recovered from his injuries and I gasped when I saw Bruce had signed him. I cant believe that he had actually watched him last year. Based on what I've seen this year he shouldn't be allowed on the field. As for free kicks we have a brilliant FK taker in Maloney.

The Cup competitions have become matches where the managers try to win with the minimum effort/cost to their squad. It's difficult to change the whole 11 players because that is too disruptive and I've got a feeling this will be a tough encounter for both clubs. I'd bet that both will field a good nucleus of their normal starting 11.

I can see this one going to penalties................

Its his complete lack of pace that's frightening.
