By the way my point about him compromising was more that his compromises support the position that he is unelectable if the party follow his agenda. Not a comment on compromise being a bad thing :)

As a former CPS prosecutor I wish I could have done my job by asking for suggestions as to what questions to ask witnesses. Would have been a lot easier than thinking on my feet.

Wishi, Wishi, Wishi.... Have you been listening to the Mail? The railways are still OWNED by the taxpayer, but they run on a franchise system. Most of the franchises are due to run out over the next two years, hence the haste on the Tories to re-franchise them asap. This led to East Coast being hurriedly flogged off to Branson before the election, even though it was being successfully run and making money for the taxpayer by the public, after the previous private franchise holders, National Express, handed the keys back @ seven years ago (without any penalty or effect on their other franchises) because they couldn't make a go of it. And that last bit tells you all you need to know about privatisation - they'll do it if it makes money, but if they can't (even if the public sector can) they expect to walk away from their contract with nothing said.

The worst that could happen, then, is that some franchises could, possibly, sue for breach of contract, but we don't have to buy back anything. Even the rolling stock, which was flogged off at cut price in the first place, is owned by the banks, primarily RBS, that WE bailed out seven years ago. The railways could be re-nationalised with minimum cost to the taxpayer despite the attempts of the skewed system being a Gordian knot of contracts. Talking of which, the fare structure and subsidies is so bent in favour of the franchisees that they simply cannot help but make money, as subsidies kick in for the private companies if they begin to lose money through the farebox (se Private Eye). God knows how National Express ****ed up. You, coming from the NHS, should be familiar with this in terms of the loaded contracts the pharmaceutical companies enjoy regarding drug sales to the NHS.

In summary, private companies do not, (yet!) own the railways - we still do. What they do own is fantastical contractual relations to provide a service that cannot lose money, and cost the taxpayer, per passenger and freight mile travelled, nearly three times as much, accounting for inflation, as the old, unlamented BR ever did. I never voted for Corbyn, but on this subject he is 110% right. Over £40bn of public subsidies has simply been siphoned off straight into the coffers of private companies (including lawyers and parasitical management consultants) over the last twenty years, and that money is over and above the actual subsidy paid to companies to run the trains. Imagine how much our health service and army of home carers could have done with that, let alone the railways themselves. In the words of Tom Hicks, this has been an epic swindle - only this time it is true.

British rail showed how **** state run industries can be, what we have now shows how ridiculous the franchise idea is. It needs sorting out big time!

David Cameron feud with Lord Ashcroft: PM 'indulged in drug taking and debauchery', billionaire donor claims in new book
    http://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...naire-donor-alleges-in-new-book-10510417.html

So the PM is a coke head. Fancy that. Of course if I said that 2 months ago I'd be off on another of my "conspiracy" trips <laugh>

People are just not aware of the sleazy batards they think are clean politicians.

Now lets watch as the media go easy on Cameron and continue to hack away at Corbyn, who is not a society gimp powder sniffer.
All the bankers and the likes of Osborne and cameron are whacking the baker.. these coke heads are running the country ffs, no wonder things are a shambles.

It's no secret the the Clintons have sniffed more white powder than you'd find in a flour factory <laugh>

And Cameron putting his cock into the mouth of a pig's head <laugh> FFS
"A source, who is now an MP, is also quoted in the book as saying that during Mr Cameron’s initiation into the society he “put a private part of his anatomy” into a dead pig’s mouth."

But surely these societies don't exist and it's all a conspiracy <whistle>

    Who said it wasn't?

But to make a blanket statement that suggests Cameron et al are all currently beak heads is baseless bullshit.

Posting a story from the Mail that is based on tests carried out by S*n reporters on bogs that 14,000 people have access to, is definitive proof that Cameron and the entire Govt are all on beak, yeah you got me there.
