Don't recognise Solly from this description! The only poor game I can remember him having was against Millwall when he was played out of position. Can anyone remember any other poor performances?

Solly's got brains, there was a moment during the Welling match when he received the ball from Sullivan under a bit of pressure, and knew where to turn to avoid creating even bigger trouble, before playing a neat chip down the line. Sullivan shouted to him after 'Great angles'.

His crossing is poor, yes. But if he can link up with Green - and there were a few promising instances of that against Welling - then our right hand side won't cause me to lose any sleep.

I remember this pass of Sullivan's. It was an example of overdoing the passing game. Early stages yet.

Yes you are...! I'm at work so i haven't got the time i need to pick the bones out of that!!

I have a sneaky suspicion that he'll have a good season for us and will kick on and do a job for us for years to come.

Solid player cant remember him having a bad game apart from Millwall and who didnt !
I can see him becoming a main stay for years to come bit of a stevie Gritt in status in the future.
And home grown and we all love our own doing well.

Yep, have to agree - cant see Solly at RB being a good thing - he's pretty much ordinary or less - and he doesnt have the key ingredient - pace.

I'm quite amazed that Solly is attracting so much criticism, none of it valid. He simply does not lack pace for a full-back. Most detractors refer to his lack of height, but in his recent run in the first team he was not beaten in the air at all. Weak in the tackle? Not true! His crossing is better than Waggy's as well. He received enormous criticism after his only poor game when Parky threw him in at the deep end out of position, and maybe he is still being judged for this? Can't be for his other performances.

I freely admitted he's better in the air than his height would suggest, but I'm not judging him on his left-back performances, which I agree would be unfair. Most of these occurred in the 2009-10 season, and yes he looked poor at left-back, but he's not a left-back so that'd be like judging Wright-Phillips at left-back! I left the final game of the season against Hartlepool determined that he should never play for the club again... he effectively didn't play that game when I really thought he had a chance to nail down that position, with Francis so obviously out of favour for most of the fans.
Crossing better than Waggy's? Well there's faint praise if every I read it!!
I guess the key difference in perception is the tacking and passing. The descriptions I'm reading here show a bloke who possesses both of these skills, I've seen a little of the former and none of the latter. As always, very happy to be proved wrong, but I'll keep comparing him to Richardson, and he falls short in every single department... that's the standard we should be looking for to win this division.

Solly had an awesome touches to goals ratio at Leyton Orient next year

Solly still has time to improve, but can easily hold his own in a very physically competitive League One. I was very impressed with his earlier contributions just before the club announced Jenks wasn't signing a new deal.

I doen't think that Solly has played enough games for any of us to offer negative critisiscm.

I partly agree, which kind of re-emphasises my concern. If someone said to me Solly was going to be our back up Right Back for this season's promotion push, I'd say 'great, happy with that'. I just haven't seen enough positive from him to be convinced he's the best right-back in League 1, or even among the best 3, which is what we need.

I get the feeling Francis could be a really good player. it is just that you all get on his back.

I remember when we beat Peterborough 3-2, he made a massive contribution which went pretty much unnoticed.

In fact, I would go to say he was our best winger last season

I dont think it takes too many games to know that someone doesnt have pace.

On the flipside everyone gave Francis stick even after a game or 2 so Solly's played more than enough for me for opinion to be formed on
