... But then went big time Charlie in the second half with a shocking attitude and stopped working. That or he was too knackered. Fabulous first half. Awful second half.
What a fantastic entertaining afternoon that was. Ok, as a saints fan I'm gutted that we lost (beat ourselves) but on another day that post in the first half and that keeper in the second half would not have prevented another 3 goal opportunities. Man united deserved the win in the end but saints weren't too shabby. Yosh and JWP looked good down the right. JWP's best game for quite a while (despite the roasting he got from Pelle). Yosh will get some stick I'm sure but Fonte made a similar mistake and got away with it. Mane and Pelle looked up for it early on and that seeped through to the rest of the team and, indeed the crowd. But yes we lost focus after their second and that cost us too. Looking forward to the Swansea game already.
Were as every other Saints player became world class and scored two goals each. I get Pelle can do more some games. But today he played well and scored two goals. The amount of criticism he gets is kind of crazy and it's getting worse.
Why is Pelle getting such a drubbing? Some people need to get off that soapbox and look at the whole picture. You can't say he was brilliant for 25 but then say he was disappointing. 2 goals and 30 minutes of excellent contribution. Were you saying the same for LeTissier?
Blimey guys, listen - NOBODY HAS THE KNIVES OUT FOR PELLE. Point two, I repeat for the billionth time - HE WAS SUPERB IN THE FIRST HALF That's why it's frustrating and we talk about it. I wouldn't really bother talking like this if he was crap. I'd just say 'he's crap' and be done with it. The thing with GP is that he has all the qualities to be brilliant. Today was a great, great example of why he IS worth talking about, because his attitude was poor in the second half, his head went down. I can only think you just didn't get to see that on telly. It wasn't even the fact that he did that as a whole, so much as the fact it really negatively impacted our ability to move the ball effectively forward because he was constantly ambling back into position. The fact he scored twice, and nearly three times, was GREAT! But him doing that does not take away from the fact that he really let himself down somewhat for the large part of the second half. If he'd have had the same attitude for the 90 that Mané had today, his performance would have been magnificent. He has that in his locker, that's why we talk about him. It's not knives out, it's trying to edge someone with potential from good to excellent.
Yes. Just like I said earlier (regarding Tiss). "Look at the whole picture" - that's precisely what we are doing. It's the people saying "he scored twice, therefore he was brilliant" that are missing the whole picture...!
Everyone is ignoring the elephant in the room....not just down to the players, but we must look to Ronald to work out what to do....starting with the match v MK Dons.
I think we're all surprised that you have chosen to continue the Pelle debate at a time when his contribution has to average out at "better than average" at least. Isn't it clear that the person who actually needs criticism right now is Koeman? He made poor changes today and dropping Cedric may have been a poor call too. Another talking point is the sudden decline of Fonte this year. Another is that JWP is a great right mid option - and should he stay there? Yet we are back to the Pelle discussion, which is boring, but we can't resist defending him because he seemed quite good, really, on a disappointing day.
Yeah, I wonder why? Maybe because Yoshida completely gifted a goal away, and then Koeman inexplicably replaced Romeu with Davis which resulted in a complete shambles of a midfield. I'd be pretty frustrated watching our midfield get overrun time and time again.
You can't say sensible things like that (Cedric, I agree. Fonte, I agree. JWP, wait and see but I potentially agree). No, no, much better we all focus on the down side of Pelle (easily my Saints MOTM today, by the way), even after he scores two goals.
I think people are too harsh on Pelle or criticise him too much. It's pretty much every game we have some one say drop him etc. Pelle has scored 4 goals in 6 games that isn't bad really.
Unfortunately (and I do mean that, it's bad fortune, bad luck) Man U have five goals from five shots on target in their last two games at St Marys. Vin
Yes, and I've criticised Koeman. The reason the talk (again) is about Pelle (again) is because we disagree. The contrast between first and second half was massive. I'll say again, because from what people are saying you cannot have seen it from tv. Many times when one of our def/mid got the ball second half, our KEY outlet wasn't there to pass to because he was ambling back from offside. That's really, really poor CF play and disrupted us 2nd half. I've defended him as much as anyone here, but I also don't get to many games live. Seeing it today, he was so, so good in the first half in every aspect of his game, then just switched off for forty minutes of the second half. That's not good but particularly when you're losing. I don't see how people can defend that.
Not saying drop him in any way at all. I'm ONLY saying, I wish he could have been arsed for 90 minutes. That's all!
Another talking point: why do Man U get their whole move on MOTD, but when we did it they only showed the last couple of passes?
I am Astonished then that you criticised LTL for his comments in the game earlier in this thread, especially when he clearly compared the two halves. And now you say you only saw the first half.
