I don't especially like comparing sports, they are different and thats it. There is plenty of cheating in rugby, but today's games were full of total commitment and endeavour. Then I see Chelsea - Arsenal on MOTD, the patheticness of Costa v Gabriel and the horrible petty atmosphere the whole game game was played in, not helped by the childish attitudes of two of the most senior managers in the game. Now Danny Murphy saying he doesn't see what Costa (I don't care how good he is, clearly a horrible human being) did wrong. Has this game lost its soul and whatever integrity it had entirely?

Ironic really that Murphy is defending Costa whilst Shearer, who played in a similar manner, is critical.

You could have a long debate on the subject Stan. Fair to say one of the biggest differences between the two sports is the attitude of the players towards the referee. In Rugby the players are "yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir" when lectured by the ref and he brooks no dissent at all. Compare that to the ludicrous behaviour footballers exhibit to the officials and you have your answer.

Today's Chelsea v Arsenal match exhibited everything that is wrong with the game, all the dark arts as brilliantly displayed by Costa are the epitome of everything the game needs to rid itself of but, sadly, that is so ingrained it will never change...

Did I? I think that might be a case of mistaken identity mate. Either that or I'm really starting to lose it.

<laugh> funny how England get singled for playing naturalised kiwis, saffers and islanders when Japan, Italy and, God help us, even France do it even more.

The endearing image of this World Cup for me will be a middle-aged, middle class white woman in a Japan shirt shrieking hysterically like Lexington Steele has just got his cock out in front of her.

Other than your"delightful" imagery.......I saw the same scene which included a very old Japanese man with tears running down his face....beautiful.

The bravery and recklessness of the Japanese fly half just continuing to plug away for the try, when taking either of the penalties would have given then a historic draw. Risking everything for glory......wouldn't have caught our Rrr s doing that!!!

I am not a rugby fan and prefer League to Union, but at half time in the City Spam game we switched over for a score update.

Obviously, we didn't switch back until after the winning try had been scored! That was sport at it's best. Not only an upset, but victory to the better side (based on watching the lasy twenty minutes). The try to make it 29-29 was a move of beauty!

This followed watching the end of the Davis Cup. What a great day of sport on the television. One of the best I can remember!

What the Japanese did yesterday was so extraordinary, it was everything that sport is about. Even watching the highlights in the evening and knowing the result was exciting, a fantastic finish pulling the South African defence every which way before creating the overlap.....brilliant rugby especially knowing that one error would have meant they would have lost.......

Now if Argentina could do something similar to the All Blacks.........<cheers>

Routine but not especially impressive win for Wales, plus a shedload of injuries. Oh dear, how sad, nevermind.

Serious question and not anti Welsh at all, but as this is "England 2015" why are Wales playing in Cardiff and having home advantage?
    Scotland aren't playing at Murrayfield.

Good question, and one I have just been posing to my (Welsh) wife. But they have to play us and Australia at Twickenham, with Fiji and Uruguay in Cardiff. And I suppose money is partly the answer.

Now the All Blacks with 90,000 at Wembley against Argentina in what should be their toughest group game, which just emphasizes how unbalanced the groups are.

I suspected that it would be all down to financial gain as are most things these days.
Really looking forward to the NZ v. Argentina game

Silence from the crowd during the haka. They won't get that respect later on.

All Blacks looking really good. Gulp.

Pumas try, when they have a man binned........very good spell

McCaw binned for a trip. A great player, but permanently on the edge. Penalty takes the Argentines into the lead after 30 minutes, which never looked likely for the first 15, when the All Blacks looked awesome. Neutrals in the crowd beginning to get behind the Pumas.

13-12 to Argentina at half time, another very enjoyable game, if only because the All Blacks don't look at all comfortable, especially with McCaw off the field. Only his 3rd yellow in 143 caps, amazing given he plays on (or over) the offside line all the time and is full of nasty little tricks.
