I think you are getting confused with "big" clubs and "good" teams.

I'm not, you are. I never confused the terms from the off. You did.

Why are Newcastle considered a big club?

So if we beat Leeds in the cup this season (undeniably a big club) would that be seen as a scalp? Of course not.

We've beaten three very good sides this season and one **** one.

Their historical stature is irrelevant. We've shown we can beat the good and the bad.

Valid point. Big teams are usually the better teams, there are exceptions though.

Depends how you determine the size of a club. They have a big ground and a decent sized fan base but they they haven't won a trophy in any of our lifetime's and they have been crap for the best part of the last 20 years.

so what happens if a billionaire buys say someone like hartlepool , then works them up the leagues invests millions ..they eventually get in the prem ...win a league cup ...does that make them better and bigger than newcastle, as a club ..when they have aboot a 9 thousand crowd ...and make less revenue than newcastle ..

You're arguing with the wrong person mate. It's Rick that's confused not me. Of course there is a difference between a 'big club' and a 'good side', as Leeds fans and Bournemouth fans would tell you.

Rick, you are embarrassing yourself here mate. West Ham are having a fantastic start and won't be having any troubles this season.

Not sure why you keep declaring Newcastle as a big club? They have won **** all for 60 years and are only seen as a big club by their own supporters and the odd exception like yourself. I'd say West Ham and Newcastle are roughly about the same size clubs, in all honesty.

west ham have always had a loyal support i nah that ... unlike others so they do get respect off me ..they have had tough times as well ..

but wining nowt in 60 years means fook all ..when others cant even fill half there stadia and like i said in previous post .. so many other factors than just being a winner ..because that could come with money and change quite easy

Can't believe some people don't know the difference between a big club and a top club. A top club is self explanatory, the best teams of the era. The size of a club is a combination of everything like history, honors, records, attendance, current standing, crowds passion of supporters, everything.

Are Chelsea a bigger club than Liverpool? Are they ****! despite their dominance over the last decade. That's pretty clear cut and I'd be surprised if anybody disagreed with it. But clubs like West Ham, Sunderland & Newcastle, it's very much open to debate and you could argue till the cows come home and you'll never agree, all points will have merit.

But really, as grown ups who are into the game we should really know the difference between a top club and a big club by now. Intertwining the two in one argument is pointless and daft. Devoting pages to it in misunderstood argument is stupid, have a word with yourself lads. <laugh>
