Daily Star this morning (yes I know - house mate has it delivered) Watford secured back to back top flight victories for the first time since April 1987. Surely it was August 1999? Proof if needed that journos just make it up as they go along
Ighalo player of the day in the Sun ( I know but i was in A & E, again, with my mum and it was there!) and lone striker in team of the day
Don't know how uneasy it sounded on the commentary but for my money that was a routine win. Not uncomfortable at all.
This is good. http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/newcastle-1-2-watford-analysis-10095174
And this from Clubcall. "If Watford gave Newcastle respect, they did so only briefly as they set about dismantling Steve McClaren's new-look side to devastating effect."
Watched from the corner of the Millburn Stand with my Geordie daughter and was very relieved to hear that final whistle. We played some great football but were lucky that Newcastle were pretty ineffective up front and Gomes was imperious. Great win but Newcastle had plenty of opportunities. Deeney strong as ever, Prodl read the game well while Gomes seems to be getting better and better. Great win but far from routine.
Up to a point. Everyone we've got a result against it's been the "worst performance" routine. Blah blah blah. Pretty routine live on the telly. Yup they had opportunities and Gomes was required to show his mettle as a Premier League keeper. Nothing overly heroic though.
Newcastle had chances they squandered.... we took ours.... so not routine at all... and a big wobble after they scored but we held on with fortitude ( hey ho a new word for me ) ... if you had heard our supporters change after scored and the moaners and abusers kicking off ( ).... It as def not routine... .this was like a cup game....
Bizarre. There was none of that sense of urgency or panic from either myself or the Newcastle fans watching the game... there were plenty left when the guys I followed in upped and left. Anyway I'm thinking a routine win for Watford is to play too deep, allow the oppo loads of chances, have our moments at the back and scrape through somehow making it harder work of it than necessary
Last night I was cursing MoTD 2 last night for leaving us till the last of the Saturday matches. Very pleasantly surprised when they said they'd left Bournemouth, West ham and ourselves till the end so that lawro could highlight our courageous and positive approaches. I think i must have been in a dream as he then went on to call us the best counter attacking team in the league!
Watched the game while here in Oz and Nyom has got me wondering. Is he the new Doyley in front of goal?
I thought we played much further forward in the first half.. it was great to see... and I just saw this on FB: please log in to view this image Of course we dropped back in the second half and paid the price IMO
There is many comments on the internet about Newcastle United playing badly, but none saying Watford played well.
