People smuggling is hardly an honourable thing given the huge amounts of money being taken. I'm pretty sure that there are a lot of unscrupulous people making quite a killing literally with little to no regard of actually helping these people.

I am concerned by the huge numbers involved and the lack of checks being carried out. I don't believe that makes me racist or less compassionate than the next man, it is just we need to ensure that the help given is targeted appropriately and those who come here are not rabid nutters that we are going to have to spend a fortune on supervising. I don't think that's unreasonable and I think Germany have exacerbated the situation by ignoring EU processing rules to the detriment of countries like Hungary.

It would be very naive to think that this situation is not being used by those who are not fleeing persecution and to be honest I don't blame economic migrants for wanting a better life, but Europe cannot become sanctuary to the whole of Africa and the Middle East without losing many of the hard earned benefits like the NHS and the welfare state being adversely affected. We would be better served in my opinion by taking out IS and removing the source of the problem.

Re: your first paragraph, I was just highlighting the same thing was happening across Europe from the threat of Nazis and in occupied countries at the time. We didnt distinguish then.

I agree we need to sort the problem out at source. Take out IS but also stop destabilising those regions in the first place also.

I get a few of the arguments regarding the refugees.

We're bombing their homes is why they're homeless - although I'm not convinced that's the sole reason.

Once again though we're reacting to the results of something rather than actually dealing with why there is a problem in the first place.

Another point is Isis have stated they will be filtering people into countries.

We don't know anything about these refugees.

Whilst the vast majority are probably genuine- we could also be letting in some dangerous people. This may seem far fetched to some - but it really isn't.

Just have to hope MI6 and MI5 do their job.

Call me a racist if you want, but this is country is full - NHS is at breaking point, you cant go anywhere without getting gridlocked - there are not enough housing for people who already live here.

If we're prepared to take care of those we don't know - then why cant we afford to take those of the streets in this country?

Why will they get better treatment than the elderly in this country who live on pittance?

It stinks of pure politics and almost some sort of empire guilt or exploitation guilt.

@Treble Actually the British army in Palestine set up camps and captured lots of Jews trying to get into Palestine and kept them in those camps.

The more extreme zionist Jews then started attacking the British army with "terror" attacks

It's not the whole reason Bow my man, you have thousaands of people joining in the flight, ditching their ID and pretending they are Syrian war refugees.

I also suspect the Turkish Gov has been lightening it's refugee load by making conditions so terrible that they fled Turkey too.

Meanwhile all of the nearest gulf states didn't accept even one. Mind you would you want to go to an Arab monarchy if you are a refugee of a different religion?

Yeh it's definitely a much more complicated situation than simply focusing on one thing. The trouble is that unless a different approach is made all round, this **** will just carry on.

Btw regarding Syria, dont assume that there's a lot of economic migration. Prior to the civil war, the country was actually economically sound and ppl there werent searching for a better life. Even when you consider Asad's regime, ppl were content. Cant speak for Libya but I think IF the West changes its whole approach to the region, it wont just be good for us and our country, it will also be good for them and their countries as I think they'd rather stay there if they had freedom and stability.

I see these "refugees" are now showing their true colours (invaders), loads of videos on-line (including Sky) showing hundreds of young fit men being brave enough to overcome armed border guards and cross into another country. They will keep doing this until they get to the promised lands.

The genuine refugees should be made comfortable in border camps. That's where the focus of the funding and aid should be going in this crisis.
Once the Syrian war is over they can safely return to their homeland.

The scrum appearing at borders acorss Eastern Europe needs to be quashed by standing firm.

Genuine refugees don't stampede borders in their quest to find their way to the 'safe' havens of the UK and Germany.

In general, what is the history of the middle east region through out history. Has it generally been a stable region or one plagued by war, either from invaders or closer to home?
