The thing with ayew is that he's not a real winger he's more of a RM/CAM/CF I think it may be better having him play in Siggy's role for a game or two and have barrow out wide. I don't think he had a bad game today at all he made some nice runs and done his job.

Agreed. Lets hope Monk sees it too because as it stands we're only playing wide on one side of the pitch and it's all a bit....predictable.

Is this board turning into Planet Swans 2, with the constant bickering?
My take on the game,we were lucky to come away with a point after Everton had three clear cut chances as the ball rolled across our goalmouth. Having said that, Everton were rough and dirty, aided by a weak and horrible ref, who has previous with us, letting everything go in favour of them. Even the sending off he was forced to ask the linesman.
There was no need for rough house football from Everton as they passed us off the park and were deadly on the break. My MOM was Ross Barkley, he bossed the midfield and we couldn't get the ball off him.
As mentioned, our bench was weak except for Ki, and Eder made little difference, although Barrow made some nice breaks.
Time for the reserves to have a run out on Tuesday at Hull, and show us how good they are.

Hull going well in the Championship. If we want to win the game we are unlikely to do it with a second string unless Bruce does the same. I'm all for starting with some fringe players like Barrow though. Let's see what he can do.

An enjoyable and entertaining 0-0 draw. Everton seem to be back at full power this season. I think a draw was a fair result in the end.

Stones & Barkley were excellent for them. And their two full-backs, Galloway & Browning, looked pretty solid considering they only had 10 first team appearances between them.

Not sure that there were any standout performers for ourselves with good performances all over the pitch.

I'm baffled by this "a draw was a fair result' opinion...... they were way better than us.
If the roles had been reversed we'd have all been gutted that we didn't win that game. They had so many more chances to win it than us.
    We got lucky today.

    Thread cleaned up.

Vetch there is no need to mention ML in this thread. It only serves your attempt to antagonise posters and de rail the thread.

    Dai refrain from insults.

I think you may be a bit harsh although I don't think we could have complained if we lost. Everton are an extremely solid team that is currently in top form (did you see their Chelsea win)

we did have our chances and could have scored a couple of them. Credit to the defence and Gareth Barry who were excellent and lucky for us the strikers couldn't quite get a break.

If anyone stood out for us today it was Taylor & Ash who made a very important blocks/ clearances that earned us the draw.

Gomis didn't perform too badly and done more than lukaku today and against a weaker defence he would have scored.

The only disappointment for me is the form of Siggy, not that he was awful but he seems to have lost his threat going forward ATM

We looked up against for most of the game. Yes we had brief spells of pressure and also a number of chances but for a home game they seemed to dominate.

Some very honest assessments of the game on this thread <applause>

I'm happy coming away from the Liberty with a point. Ok we missed a few decent chances but I'd have taken a draw before kick off and that view is unchanged.

thought Stones had a great game, I can see why Chelski are after him. Our bench depth is a worry however a point is a point as they say. Another tough match next weekend.

This isn't the first game where we seem to be absorbing pressure e.g.Everton away, Arsenal away, Man Utd at home and relying on counter attacks. As our defence is generally our strongest unit perhaps this isn't surprising but if we are adopting this counter attacking style we need players, such as Barrow, with pace.

I agree Nos. Barrow on the right will stretch defences like Montero and therefore creating more space for Gylfi etc.

For me Gylfi is struggling because his area is also taken up by Ayew and Gomis. He has no room to breath.

This is why I think it should be Ki and Cork starting and then either Gylfi , Ayew or Jonjo being the attacking midfielder. This would also strengthen our bench although we will need another right back to complete it sooner rather than later.

There's also the opportunity for Routledge to play on the right <whistle>

Tbf the diamond with Routs and Gomis was very successful last season.
We've a few different formations so I'd like to see us change it up a little.
