I like Capello too. I know he got slammed for boring football but he had England winning more games and higher up world rankings than any othwe recent England manager.

One of the best managers in the history of the game.

Unai Emery is another talented coach. Simeone would be good as well.

It's not gone yet although the gap has closed from 25 to 6 co-ef pts since 2012.

Also, If the Italians do overtake us this season, the reduction to 3 teams wouldn't happen until the 2017/18 competition. They need the extra year to sort out the qualification process

Ridiculous if Italy get it considering Juventus alone are a good European side there right now.

Shows the possible effect of how competitive the PL is... and that all the PL's top sides are in periods of uncertainty or transition.

  6. We've not got any stand out performers either though. I believe (and I could be wrong) the difference is, they've been doing it in the EL, English teams haven't.

As Gerez said, only Chelsea have been holding up the PL's co-efficient in the last few years. None of the other PL teams have been remotely close to winning anything in Europe, as shown by their current rankings. Spain are miles ahead of us, with the Germans neck and neck and the Italians closing in.

As for the PL, it is very competitive but i'd argue that's because all the teams outside the usual top4/6 have improved, whilst measured against the best in Europe the top 4/6 are poorer than they were 5/6 years ago!

Scoring also based on Europa League performance.
    We don't take it seriously...
Spain and Italy do. Need to change this attitude asap.

    AVB?? FFS! <doh>

May as well wait until Mourinho gets the push from Chelsea and go for him. Seriously, that wouldn't work, either.

All the more reason to focus on Europa League.

We don't have enough money for Jose to win anything.

Does anyone seriously think that the richest league in the World backed by the broadcasters who've just doubled what they pay for the CL, are just going to sit back and accept the PL losing 25% of their places in the Worlds premier club competition? Seriously?

Right oh, if we did fall behind the eyeties, I'd fully expect some 're-alignment' of the qualification criteria that resulted in the status quo being maintained

    True.

Plus he's a loose cannon. He gets bored after three seasons as he appears to be doing now. Chelsea won today and beat Maccabi Tel Aviv in the CL, but IMO his days are numbered at Slumford Bridge. Wouldn't want him at Anfield I don't think.

Would anyone give Rafa another go, in light of what Gerrard wrote?

Definitely have Rafa back. I believe the reason why he wasn't considered is because of influences of Carra, Gerrard and Ayre. With all of them likely to have gone come next year, there's a chance he may be considered.
