They can't drive in Aylesbury, that's a fact. I make a point of not driving there and when we go to the rather excellent Waterside Theatre we nearly always take public transport or Mrs H-F takes the risk....

The religious argument for war etc is often that religion is used as a pretext for the inhuman killing of others..... the spoils of war then being the seemingly irreligious looting, raping and pillaging.

I often think that scratch below the surface of civilization and we find the basic animal instincts... .witness the behaviour of monkey clans and how the alpha male will kill off all the progeny of its predecessor.

Only if you keep to the cycle lanes where available. :emoticon-0105-wink: Spent hundreds of thousands around our way on them and no one uses them. Bloody annoying when it holds everyone else up. They're there not only for the safety of cyclists but to allow motorists to drive unhindered.

I am rather hoping that the towns of the future (call them transition towns or whatever) are built first and foremost to fit the needs of pedestrians, cyclists and users of public transport :emoticon-0105-wink:

I enjoy going to Waterside ( can recommend the Fish n Chips with mushy peas , served in the White Hart over the road ) ..was toying with the idea of seeing some of the tribute acts ..do you know if they are any good ? same question re the Comedy club held there .
Notice Jim Davidson is on the upcoming list ..will skip him . Always make an effort to see Jeremy Hardy when he is in the area ..I can recommend him to wear yellow and superhorn ...you will just love him .
Dave ..don't worry about emotions , fully embrace them ...they are what make us human ! ..I understand up to 11 million folk in England don't have any ( Joke ) .
Yorkie ..we ARE animals ... and lot's of us were roaring like lion's towards the end of the Swansea game . Fantastic !

I'm hoping in the future , we all have personal teleporters , as featured in Star trek .... ( I dare say there will be an "Audi" version to distinguish the toffs from the plebs ) .

There may be a biological problem with humans Yorkie. Carnivorous, hunting animals develop a complex system of appeasement gestures between each other - the reason being obvious: they have claws and teeth which they can use to kill each other. If tigers fought with each other as often as humans do, or with as little restraint, they would not survive as a species. Animals which do not have deadly weapons built into their anatomy have not developed the same safety mechanisms - we have weapons which we can kill each other with, but not the biological means of coping with this power.

It's an interesting point from Cologne though. Too many people throughout history have loved the power but not so good at knowing when it is morally right to use it - left and right.

Cologne ...I'm one of those annoying people who has to give everyone a nickname ( I have spent far too much time delving into WW2 photo albums ...Ginger , Shorty , Jock etc etc ) ....from now on I will address you as The Professor or Prof for short . ( need to think of alternative nick name for Wear yellow and Superhorn at the mo ..current one's not moderator friendly )
...I will advise you that I do indeed have a deadly weapon built into my anatomy ..granted not quite as deadly as it once was ..but should the need arise !!!

Illegal Eagles and the UK Pink Floyd Experience were both quite superb there.

I booked to see the illegal eagles at the Watford Colosseum last year but somehow forgot the gig wasting the money. I saw 'Rumours of Fleetwood Mac' there recently, the venue is utterly soulless, will not return again. St Albans Arena and the Durngate in Northampton are far superior venues. I've seen the Stylistics and Paul Carrick recently, both excellent.

I'm a carnivore, no veg needed when eating a socialist! As a hunter and male the suppression of natural instincts which are to kill, to take, to overpower are what cause incredible stress as the inner battle between nature and conscience burns me up...

Just thought I'd start this one up again. I have one question - why is Corbyn always referred to as hard left when all of his policies are already practiced successfully somewhere else in Europe (or in other countries otherwise considered as having capitalist economies). Nationalized railways - Germany, Italy, Japan, Spain, Sweden etc. Nationalized power (electricity, coal etc.) Sweden, Japan. A living wage - Switzerland and Scandinavia. Phasing out of nuclear power - Germany. Nuclear weapons - Not thought necessary by any other EU countries apart from France or the UK. (Is Germany endangered by not having them). Rent controls - Germany, Switzerland, Paris, and others. So, can anyone give me a reason why Corbyn is seen as being hard left ?

I think Brits like the Left-Right split. We are more dualistic and less moderate. Houses of Parliament is set up like it. Coupled with the fact that most print media are owned by supporters of the current 'Right' agenda.

Presumably because he is being positioned in a British context and not in German, Italian or Swedish context. Some of those policies are considered hard left in Britain, I cannot see the point in making such comparisons. Plus your examples are not consistent - France has a huge Nuclear Power industry and their government is considered as very Leftish. Current government will be introducing a living wage in Britain and they are certainly not left wing.
