http://www.thisishullandeastriding....-mark-Tigers/story-12963206-detail/story.html Give him up until January, otherwise he'll be out. Needs a good start.
I get the impression he is one of those strikers whose hard work creates chances and space for the other strikers, I’m not necessarily convinced he is there to score 15+ goals a season.
I agree, works his arse off and sacrifices goal scoring positions doin this, Fryatts our main goal threat, Mclean forces errors and harries. Anything from 10-15 goals in this league from him would be decent. As long as Fryatts hitting 20 lol
No need to put too much pressure on the strikers. If Fryatt, McLean and Simpson can ship in with 30 odd between them, Adebola, Barmby, Koren and the wingers can find 5-6 each, Big Hobbs gets his share and McKenna pops up with a couple of Ashbee specials, then we'll do alright. Hope McLean comes good. I don't particularly rate him but his attitude is infectious.
I had to chuckle at that but to be fair we have to give our guys a go before criticising too harshly. I forecast a total of 56 goals in a competition last season and finished second. I will be forecasting about the same I think for next season.
To be honest I've never really rated him, even when we bought him (for £1.3m), but McLean truly does epitomise 'working for the team.' That part of his game was impressive, but obviously a strike rate of 1 in 8 for City needs working on. I'm confident he can bag a few next season, with the aid of Matty Fryatt, who he formed a great partnership with last season. It's also pretty clear that the majority of fans think Fryatt will be our main source of goals - could that lift some pressure off McLean?
Don't think his partnership with Fryatt was that good, they seemed to be split apart for most games, and it was when Fryatt linked up with Koren that we actually started scoring
With the right service he could be 20 a season just like Fryatt. His finish @ Coventry last seasion showed what he can do. He just needs to do it on a more consistant basis. He work rate is 2nd to non in the championship. He will benefit from a good pre-season just Harper and maybe Bullard.
Bloody hell, has McClean been working out all summer, he looks like the hulk on that bike! I think he'll do ok this season. 10 goal + return from him, and the type of striker he is would be good. He'll create more space for Fryatt to be more effective.
I love this time of year when people start talking about how many goals strikers should score. It's always a load of bollocks; for some reason at thia time of year everyone forgets that a striker scoring 20 goals is a really big thing, and most don't get 10. I agree with what is being said about McLean that he is not there to score all the goals, but there's no way you can say that about him and follow it up by saying he'll get 15. We can reasonably expect Fryatt to hit 15 and the other two will get somewhere between 5 and 10 I reckon. But it's all pretty academic anyway, the point is they are good players and they'll score goals between them, I don't give a **** which one gets how many.
If you count his easy chances he fluffed, he'd have had atleast 5 league goals for us so far, i'm confident he'll do well next season, i actually like Mclean
Just to highlight that, off the top of my head I don't think we've had a striker score 20 in a season this century. Elliott was not a striker, Alexander might have made it even with his ridiculous collapse in the second half of the season though because I'm sure he had 18 by Xmas. (the fact I don't know if he made 2 goals from that point on shows just how big a collapse it was)
I thought he showed quite a bit of promise, takes time to adjust to a higher level, and to a new club and area, he seems to have a good spirit and hope we see the best of him this year.
