Pirate49 are you referring to UWE, if you are NH stated in todays WDP that Rovers were talking to UWE and an unnamed party in case they lost the Sainsbury's battle. Reading the article it appears that parking at UWE has to be in be in place by a certain date so presumably that is one of the talking points

Plymouth Argyle can confirm that Colin Sexstone has left the club's Board of Directors.

Colin, 67, joined the Pilgrims' board as a non-executive director in November 2012, having previously served as Bristol City chairman and Gloucestershire County Cricket Club chief executive.

We thank Colin for his service to Argyle and wish him well for the future.

I think the title needs to be amended now as its officially confirmed!!!!!

    Now on the OS....

Colin Sexstone becomes non-executive board member

The club today welcomes Colin Sexstone to the board as a non-executive director.

Colin brings with him a wealth of experience in the worlds of sport and finance. His role will be one of developing the business, looking for new opportunities.
Colin is currently chairman of Team Bristol, an organisation set up by the Electoral mayor to get more people involved in Sport and to bring more events to Bristol. He is also the owner of Sexstone Consulting. His previous roles include that of CEO at Gloucestershire County Cricket Club and CEO and chairman at Bristol City.

    Chairman Nick Higgs said:
"We are delighted to have someone of Colin’s stature join us and we are confident his contribution will strengthen our operation. Colin is a successful businessman and has unrivalled contacts in areas which are relevant and exciting for our club. I feel confident that all Colin’s past experience in sporting organisations within Bristol will unlock many opportunites to progress the aims of the Club as we look to develop both on and off the field. Colin will also help to lighten the load on the Board as we progress the development of the new stadium. It will be good to have another colleague to bounce ideas off.

    Colin Sexstone said:
"First and foremost, I’m a proud Bristolian who loves sport. My experience means I know how successful sports clubs operate, and I hope to help Bristol Rovers achieve more success on and off the pitch. I have an extensive network of contacts throughout football and the financial world and I will use these for the benefit of Rovers. My position, which is a voluntary one, will also involve me helping the club to maximise their commercial return. Clearly the fact I was involved with Bristol City for so many years will sit uneasily with some fans, but my relationship with the Bristol Rovers board has always been excellent and my commitment now is exclusively with Rovers. Although I was born in Bedminster I went to Boarding School at Colston’s, at the top of Bell Hill in Stapleton, and frequently went to Eastville with my friends to watch Rovers. I have many fond memories of those days.’’

    From the Post....

Colin Sexstone is ready to ride out the storm that is expected to follow his appointment to the board of Bristol Rovers today.

Sexstone, 67, who spent 18 months as chairman of Bristol City during an 10-year spell on the board at Ashton Gate, has accepted a non-executive directorship at the Memorial Stadium after resigning a similar position at Plymouth Argyle earlier this week.

The vastly-experienced sports administrator, who is expected to be officially presented at the Memorial Stadium today, is being brought on board to lend his experience towards Rovers' continuing bid to build a new stadium on land owned by the University of West England.

    Sexstone said:
"I am fully aware of the fact that there will be some people on both sides of the divide who will decry this move. That is only natural because I served at Ashton Gate for a decade and I don't need anyone to tell me that there is a rivalry there. I enjoyed my time at Bristol City and I wish them well for the future, but I am a Bristolian first and foremost and I have fond memories of the days I used to go to watch Rovers at Eastville with my friends when I was at boarding school at the top of Bell Hill in Stapleton. I live on the north side of the city and have done so for 15 years and I have friends on the board who want to use my expertise – if that is the right word – to help them going forward. I have struck up a friendship with Ed Ware and Chris Jelf after they helped me and my family through a very difficult period, so when they asked me if I would be interested I didn't hesitate."

Sexstone will also oversee the process of putting in place plans to maximise revenue streams resulting from the new venue should Rovers eventually realise their dream of constructing their proposed new home away from the Memorial Stadium. He will also tap in to his wide-ranging business network in an effort to help the on-going search to attract outside investment.

    Sexstone added:
"I have over 20 years of experience in sports administration so you would hope that I have learned something in that time that can be of use to Rovers going forward. I don't have a big swag bag of money to invest but I hope to use my contacts book to open some doors that will help to find some outside investment. I have a lot of experience in dealing with potential investment into football clubs and I know a lot of people who are looking around to get involved if they can find the right club. There is massive potential at this club, but it needs a new stadium to really capitalise on all the things that are going for it. A purpose-built stadium right next to great rail and motorway links would certainly make the club an attractive proposition for outside investors over the long term. When we were going through the process of Ashton Vale at Bristol City we enlisted the help of Deloitte to develop a business plan that highlighted the value of building a new stadium for any club. It outlined where and how you could maximise the asset and these are all ideas that can be taken forward and developed to help Bristol Rovers use the stadium to generate the income that can help them move up the league structure."

The role is not thought to encompass day-to-day or on-pitch affairs but he will attend weekly board meetings and will be asked for his opinions on a range of issues on a regular basis.

Sexstone, who was born and raised in Bristol, enjoyed a 25-year career in the RAF before joining Gloucestershire County Cricket Club in 1996 and enjoying a successful five-year spell as chief executive. During his tenure, Gloucestershire won five one-day trophies at a time when Sexstone was overseeing the ultimately successful bid to bring the County Ground up to international standard.
He joined Bristol City in 2001 and was at the club as they won promotion from League One to the Championship in 2007 before narrowly missing out on promotion to the Premier League when they lost the play-off final to Hull City the following season. Revenues more than doubled during Sexstone's tenure at Ashton Gate as he managed to turn the venue into one that delivered a host of income-boosting non-football events. Sexstone was also heavily involved in the planning for the club's ultimately unsuccessful Ashton Vale stadium venture and was a key figure in Bristol's selection as a host city for England's 2018 World Cup bid.

If Colin Sexstone can come on board and assist with the development of the new stadium then we should welcome him with open arms because there is always a chance that interested parties might also be interested in putting money into the club for other purposes

I think that's the best way - ignore who he may have worked for in the past - judge him on what he does at the Mem

It's of great value to the Gas that a local person with such a wealth of experience of things sport and things Bristol has joined our happy band. Let us hope he can bring better fortune to our Board regarding the finances and development of the new stadium.

Im the same. New players joining us who previously played for City is fine and although not popular with the majority to begin with, I am always behind them and treat them as a gashead. But Sexstone joining, for some reason im seeing this in a negative way. He is not getting paid for his services so I should be thinking fair shout to him but I'm worried that he is being used as an advisor amongst other things but won't be adding any investment himself. Now if he put his money where his mouth is then he has something to risk. But the risk is on us. He admits to being a City fan, he will be advising Higgs and Co on UWE amongst over things. He could royally mess things up for us being City's next agent in the camp. Maybe not on purpose but he has form for messing things up. Didn't Lansdown blame him for Ashton Vale going tits up?

I just don't feel confident on this one.

Good points CJS - This is our future we are talking about - i think CS is being brought in to help oversee the reduction in size of the UWE Project which could see: Reduced Capacity! - Split ownership! (possibly 3 ways) - No car park revenue! - Reduced income streams! - An 8 lane running track! - Little room for expansion - And this is our so called 'Promised land!!!! Once this or whatever plan is signed off it will be built and we will have to live with it for decades - If we have any real ambitions (obviously this board have very little by the scheme of things) we need a Stadium that will allow growth if/when we are more successful and benefit from revenue streams in those times - If you're happy with what we've become the last 15 years of course that's fine either stay where we are or share a downsized stadium with a few partners - but don't call it ours cause it won't be - Personally i want better, the decisions made over the coming weeks will act as our legacy both on and off the pitch - i hope the future generations don't have to post on Forums "Why didn't the supporters in 2015 demand better?" like we do occasionally when referring to the sale of Eastville - because by then it will be too late in my opinion - UTG

Hope for your sake that he comes up to expectation....whilst at Argyle Sexstone became the invisable man.....what the hell was he there for.....if it was to help with the Grandstand development things didn't even get off the ground.....maybe he and James Brent had different ideas on how to proceed.
