If - as some have stupidly suggested - it was an argument between Celtic fans which got out of hand, one must wonder why the shooter(s) decided to take a firearm to Amsterdam to watch a football match, and more importantly, how he managed to get a gun through customs and onto a plane.

DUTCH police are investigating claims that the Celtic fan who was shot in a crowded Amsterdam bar was the victim of a gangland contract shooting. Lewis Rodden, 41, who was in Holland to see his team play Ajax in a Champions League qualifying match, was drinking with one of his three sons in a city centre bar when a gunman shot him once in the chest and fled.

Initially Dutch police said there was no obvious motive, ruled out any connection with football, and suggested the incident could have been racially motivated.But "underworld sources" were quoted yesterday claiming that Mr Rodden, the former head of a security company, had been the victim of a bungled assassination ordered by a rival in Glasgow. Dutch police, who are looking for three men, said he was shot by a black man who walked into the crowded bar near the red light district. All three fled. The gunman abandoned the weapon and his clothes nearby, suggesting that it was an organised attack.

 

The guy borrowed a gun from a mate from Glasgow who was working in The Dam at the time.
