Not just a little bit of rotation from Rodgers he's left the majority of the first team behind. This could go really badly but at least we won't have Skrtel & Lovren as centre backs tonight.
I agree - I think the issue is more psychological than physical. It seems like a burden to most. But we really need to take it seriously as I feel it's our best chance of getting CL next season. However, Rodgers's record in Europe his awful. Liverpool were ranked 5th in club rankings when FSG took over. We're now 55th. The decline is incredible and it needs to stop.
Liverpool are 16/1 with the bookies to win ATM, however these are very short odds when you look at the record of BR in European competitions. This will be his third run at this comp and with the resources he has/had then a semi final should be his minimum aim. English clubs have not taken it seriously. Last season the squad at Everton was not deep enough to take a run at it and we had a footballing lesson in an away game. Teams like BNoro and Fulham have looked at it in the past, realised that they wont get relegated and gone for it. Whats the real difference between finishing 10th or 17th? It will be the same for Liverpool, a run at this should still ensure they finish 5th or 6th
But we are going to finish 1st? I'm confused we're nailed on for the league by far the best team with the best manager and coaches and scouts and tea lady.
I think its more than that. Isn't it about £2.5m per position nowadays? Can't see too many of our players being happy with finishing 17th either.
Leaving key first teamers back at home as opposed to bringing them in the squad achieves what exactly? Leave them on the bench if you want to rotate, but surely for team unity (especially after 2 heavy defeats) you'd take them? I don't think dropping key players for this game is the right call anyway. Get qualification more or less done and then rotate at will. He's going to look a right **** if you get done tonight.
Agree with this. How do the players that travel feel when they see the others left in Liverpool? Its a squad game and whether we're going to use them or not, they should all travel. Does nothing for team unity / spirit IMO
The owners care about the financial side of things. Increased PR and reputation. Doing well in EL will do more than finishing fourth in the PL! Just because this country thinks the EL is **** doesn't mean everyone does. It is well respected in Europe and at the risk of sounding like a broken record, look at what the EL's done for Seville and Monaco!
If they were going to the furthest reaches of Eastern Europe then I could maybe understand it, but it's only a hop over to France ffs.
Sorry but you've got that one worng pal. The only way that statement would be correct is if you won the thing and got the kudos plus the CL place. The Shermans will want the £60m+ from the Cl ahead of anything else........
Yeah but Sevilla are excellent in the EL, have you seen us play lately He has to win the EL, or get 4th to be sure of safety. Right now he has to balance that carefully, one could cost the other. EL one game can do you, the PL not so.. at least this early on. So focus should be the PL seeing as we lost our last two games I think. I think he is really worried for his job atm, and so this is how he has reacted
Yeah, putting fourth was probably a bit of a stretch I'd rather win the EL than finish fourth though.
So would I. I was delighted we took the comp so seriously last season and we were looking great until we went to Kiev and got it completely wrong. I'd even reserved two tickets for the final in Poland on the off chance ffs.
Believe it or not I was hoping ye lot went all the way last season. I don't feel that local rivalry and Astro's reaction to you lot being in the CL would have been interesting
I know I blamed myself ffs. The deadline for applications was before the QF draw, so I had no choice.
