Pension CREDIT is a means tested benefit that is seperate from STATE Pension! The woman in question could've come from say Pakistan (which isn't in the EU I don't think.... ),not be able to speak English,not have any foreign pension and as long as she passes an HRT (Habitual Residency Test as I'm sure you're aware) and she hasn't been sponsered into the country,she will be given £137.35 a week to live on. As already mentioned she will also get the other benefits that come with this such as help with health costs,housing benefit etc. A woman who has worked in this country all her life and paid National Insurance,leading to her getting a State Pension of roughly the same amount WON'T receive these extra benefits and will have the same amount of money to live on!!! As for the issue with the mortgage,lets say she came over when 57. She could work for 3 years and in that time apply for and get a mortgage. FACT!!! She wouldn't build up any entitlement to a State Pension in that time so when she reached State Pension age she could quit work,apply for Pension Credit,get the £137.35 a week the government states a person living in this country must have each week to live on AND get 3.63% of the outstanding balance on her mortgage paid. The other woman previously mentioned that has worked here all her life would again get ZERO help with her mortgage. So to sum up Toby..... YOU'VE BEEN OWNED AGAIN!!!!!
