It was my wife's fault, as she went to toilet at the wrong time, no ifs, no buts. <doh>

How did Tommy Hundredstone (HAAAAW!) play? I always knew Clucas was a centre-mid.

He played well, he looks so much better in a three (as does Clucas).

Elmo has an obvious role, it's either him or Odubajo for right wing back, if Bruce thinks Elmo will go in January, I suspect he'll go with Moses..

Yeah sorry with you suggesting Robertson and Odubajo had roles in the XI it obviously means Elmo will be ditched or used in rotation.

Tah. Livermore will have to work extra hard now to get in which can only be good.

    I'd love to see the christmas tree - 3 4 2 1 :

    Greggsy
    Davies Maguire Dawson
    Elmo/Dave Livermore Huddlestone Robertson
    Diame Maloney
    Abel

    Actually i have no idea.

Looks a really strong Xmas tree except the pots a bit wobbly, but then there's always the emergency loan market

See, I half agree and half disagree. I 100% agree that 3-5-2 is the way to go, but I think that Bruce bought in players to fill a 4-4-2 or 4-5-1 formation as 3-5-2 I think will mean him having to leave one of Elmo or Dave out and one of Clucas or Mahoney, also the question is asked, where does Snodders (if he ever gets fit) fit into a 3-5-2??? I also think the same happened the year before when he bought in attacking wingers like Ince and Snodders aimed at playing a 4-2-3-1 only for it to go tits up trying to get into Europe and a swift revert back to 3-5-2. Definitely a good formation to use, but not by design of transfers for me

I think we can forget Snodgrass for now, there's no prospect of him being available any time soon, so it's Maloney or Clucas and Elmos or Odubajo and there's half a chance Elmo will be gone in January anyway.

Would be a bit harsh on Clucas who IMO has done OK and is growing into in the left mid field role.

True but I guess they bring different qualities to the team, so it will depend on which one suits the balance of the team the best.

Yeah, Snodders is a real blow, but the question of who goes into that 3 man midfield is an interesting one when everyone is fit, Diame, Mahoney, Clucas, Hayden, Huddlestone, Meyler, Livermore and eventually Snodgrass all vying for 3 positions, whereas in the 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1 I think Bruce was looking to play you can accomodate a lot more of them.

Also a question as to where Taylor fits in? With no RB being played would he be a cm or cd cover? We'd certainly need CB cover with only Dawson, Davies, Bruce and Maguire as 1st team options there.

Anyways, kind of convinces me more of my point that I don't think Brice had any intentions of playing 3-5-2 regularly this year, and bought players for other formations

3-5-2 once again shows a better way than 4-4-2.

Brave and needed team changes by Steve Bruce that worked very well.

A good solid away win against a previously un-defeated team. 2 quality goals in a better than expected game on a drab Cardiff night,.

Enjoyed the trip with Tiger Travel especially the trip home with the eye lids very heavy.

Well done to all that made both games @ Brighton and Cardiff.

Anyone going to both from East Yorkshire has made a fine effort.

That's a cracker of a line up. Don't think we'd play like turkeys with that formation.

Great passes in the lead up to both goals first from Aluko and the second from Diame was out of this world - great take and finish by Hernandez.

The most positive for me in both goals were the runs by Abel. For the first he showed massive desire to get there, taking 2 defenders out in the process, and the 2nd he found space ghosting behind the defenders back out of his line of sight. I think he actually made the midfielder's job pretty easy.

    Very encouraging....
