Looks like a lazy piece here on the back of another crap result for us .... he seems to be hanging out to dry our new players after 5 games and says '(they) cannot be happy with their recruitment and the money they have spent' (this from a Liverpool fan).

Up until this summer I'm not aware of any significant net spend and we were amongst the most profitable clubs in the PL so I'm sure Mike would comment to the contrary there.

I'm a bit old school and would always like to see home grown players in the side but if we have to buy them in, there's normally a £10m premium on them (Chambers, Shaw, Stones are three who either went for... or have been bid for big money).

Going back my original point.. I think the time to judge the new arrivals will be at the end of this season.. if not next year.

Jamie Carragher has questioned Newcastle United’s transfer policy after watching them slump to the bottom of the Premier League last night.
The Magpies meekly lost 2-0 at Upton Park against West Ham United to prop up the rest of the table, having failed to win a game so far this season.

Owner Mike Ashley had sanctioned a £50million spending spree during the summer, with chief scout Graham Carr and managing director Lee Charnley bringing in Georginio Wijnaldum, Chancel Mbemba, Aleksandar Mitrovic and Florian Thauvin.

However, pundit Carragher believes the continued recruitment from abroad isn’t helping Newcastle improve and says the club ‘can’t be happy with their recruitment’ over recent seasons.

“It’s the same story with Newcastle,” the former Liverpool defender.
“There is a new manager, £40m-50m spent, but it’s still the same.
“Mistakes at the back, getting counter-attacked, no threat up front – Newcastle used to be about exciting things happening but they are buying these players from abroad, spending a lot of money on them, and they are not actually doing anything.
“Newcastle are certainly one of those teams who, over the years, cannot be happy with their recruitment and the money they have spent.

“They have spent as much money as some of the top teams in Europe and you don’t see what you are getting for it.
“Mike Ashley is probably thinking ‘I’ve spent £40m-50m and it’s no different, we are just continually wasting money’.”

We haven't spent enough that is the problem. We needed a complete overhaul. 40-50 Million wasn't/isn't enough.

We have spent a lot of money. We need to spend more if wanted to solve it in one go. The problem is more we've spent the money in a warped fashion. We needed to sort out defence out. We didn't and its now costing us games. Its not complicated.

Sorry, we spent money on a warp drive...and we are having to spend defenders to buy games...

    :emoticon-0138-think

    not complicated?

Not sure I agree TBH. That all seems very complicated to me.

Now this would have worked even better if you'd just said "What has this got to do with ACS's chinos?"

You see, Chino's are clearly front of mind with most on here now.
I'm clear gaining support in the loud chino movement.

I don't want to know about the loud movement in your chinos, nor the stains it created.

He clearly hasn't actually consulted the facts of the situation before opening his mouth. We've spent as much as the top teams in Europe over the years? Really Jamie, our net spend since Ashley came in is surely far less than £100m in 7 or so years. I suspect its about half that and less than most of the clubs in the premiership but who needs to be able to remember more than a year ago or use facts to form opinions...

From a Liverpool fan as well, jesus Christ!

Spending loads of coin on players does not necessarialy mean it is going to work tho.

I personally think we lack an identity at the moment from just buying players in the hope of resale value without actually thinking does this player for into the style we want to play and ethos of our team.

This in itself makes recruitment difficult as we don't have a vision/direction to sell to players.p

Indeed and we are reluctant to bite the bullet on this 5 year old defence (that is not their ages though it may look like at times)

Carragher, slow on the pitch, and slow in the head.

    I hate Carragher.
    His voice is terrible.
I do rate Neville though. The lad knows his stuff.

Maybe but he needs to buck his ideas up if he still wants to run the prediction league. <whistle>
