    Wasn't the worse tackle in the world, just the angle. Because he's come in from the side, he's caught his standing leg which has forced it to bend..

    But he's come in full tilt knowing he's not avoiding the player and its the speed and height of his trailing leg that's done the damage. I remember Shelvey getting a red for same type of tackle outside the box for us...in fact if memory serves Kompany got one for something similar that year too.

    Defenders union, win the ball and take out the man.

    Obviously not condoning injury players, but always of the opinion that if you win the ball cleanly, nothing wrong with your follow through wiping the man out (within reason obviously).

    I'm not saying that tackle was good by the way, he seemed to dive in a bit, just seen worse tackles that have caused less damage. The "straight on" studs up is often far worse as your leg can't bend backwards where as coming in from the side you often have a bit more movement.

    I'm maybe letting the injury colour my view. Just find it strange that that type of tackle seems to meet perfectly the description for red in the rules but rarely gets called in the box. Kind of takes away the argument that the rules are to protect the players.
