Thankfully the Republic of Leeds is lax on visa entry requirements ;)

We should go to Malaysia or China next year for football and commercial reasons. It could help Newcastle become more gloabbly supported.

How is Cabaye a core player when he only joined like 2 months ago?! He isn't a core player like Barton yet.

Considering the Cabaye problem is administrative, the same thing could have happened nomatter what country the team went to this month.

I'd argue clubs like Man U, Liverpool, Arsenal are a big brand there, and thats why they go. Not because they go.

Clearly piss poor admin and tightness is all we've taken from the Everton model. Nice football and loads of French lads is what we've taken from Arsenal. I think we're onto the Bolton/Fulham model now. The idea of this one is to stagnate in mid table.

We'll be the best mid-table 'stagnators' the world has ever seen!

Places like Malaysia are far worse for building up pre-season fitness.

That Holland tour doesnt sound so bad with Barton, Cabaye, Moyo, Inman, Richardson, Edmundsson, Ranger & Airey now.

Selling the best young striker we've had in years for £30M+?? Yeah sounds about right.

Tough one this. It undoubtedly does raise your profile going there to play. However as you say I think they are already established teams over there. They're established because they are regularly in the top 4-6, win things, play in europe and so on. They see the best bits of our league in the main. To become a big brand you have to win something, that's what sponsors etc want to be attached to, winners. (all I can hear in my head as I type that is Charlie Sheen saying "winning")

I think it would be a very silly place to go on tour at the moment. We're not that big over there and finance is the reason for going. We won't generate that much unless we do something magical this year! Most of the managers hate the far east tours in pre season for a reason. The heat and affect it can have on your preparations/fitness work plays a major part, and they'll often schedule them for very early in the pre season to just get them out the way before the real prep work starts.

The latest on this is that its apparently just a small problem with the Visa and he could still fly out to the US if it gets fixed in time, if not THEN he's going to Holland. Hopefully it'll get sorted out then.

Fulham have finished in the top 10 and played in Europe 2 of past 3 seasons, I think most 'round here would be pretty happy with that (for the time being at least)

Should've just sent him to one of the lady customs officers, American girls are suckers for a smooth-talking French guy. He'd have been allowed into the States before you could say "Sacrebleu!"

I flew into LAX in 2005 and the guy at customs said "welcome home" - dunno what he'd been reading but that was only my 2nd time in the US. Didn't want to argue with a man with a gun so said "thanks very much" and carried on. Probably the polar opposite of getting a visa refused. In their eyes I was one of them. The club should've asked my advice.

Scratch Fulham then, I'd be over the moon with that! Bolton probably not a great example either as they are looking progressive under Coyle. I'll plump for Wigan then. They are a selling club too, and never threaten anything silly like Europe. The Wigan model it is then. (Mr Ashley will love taking tips from Mr Whelan)

Was it not just down to them not kicking folk though that Fulham got in as opposed to their league position? Cheick will put paid to that on his own. Should you really get in for fair play now? Given the number of false yellows and reds handed out due to play acting, I don't think there should be an incentive.

I wasn't meaning to correct you, I just have a soft spot for the lil' old club (first football match I ever went to was at Craven Cottage). And true, this year they've gotten into Europa League because of Fair Play, which I agree is a pretty bogus way to slip in -- but they did finish top 10, so it's not as bad as if it'd been Wigan or someone else at the bottom who'd qualified through FP
