Yep it was me. What some (ahem) modern day United fans fail to realise is that those of us that grew up with United in the 80's weren't spoiled with success but we enjoyed our football. We remained true to the best traditions of the club - there was still a glamour about United and that transpired onto the pitch in our style of football. OK we had to suffer the success and domination by Liverpool during that period, but when we did win the occasional FA Cup there was a style about the manner in which we did it, that made the whole thing fcking euphoric. It made us want to watch United. We were box office.

What it also did, was help ground us fans. I honestly believe fans from that era were lucky that despite United having little success, we still enjoyed our football. After that, what Fergie taught us was you could have both. But it took him a few seasons of mid-table mediocrity and hardly a new player signed in his first year or two iirc. For all those reasons I was willing to be patient and give Moyes time. Personally, I thought "**** it, we've been spoiled with success for a long time but I can still relate to those dry periods of the 80's and I'm not too bothered." I think it's also bcos of those things that most of the older United fans believe you should have performance along with the result.

Ofcourse the modern plastics like someone I could mention press the panic button bcos they judge people on appearances and whether they're a big name or not. No surprise then, that when we're 7th in the league they're calling for Moyes' head. The real irony is that despite LVG's failures, these very same plastics sing his praises. I guarantee you if United had finished outside top 4 under LVG, these fairweather fans would have been defending him. And that my dear sir, is why they lack credibility <ok>

Well that certainly doesn't apply to me. :)
I was happy to see lvg get another season regardless.

Unlike some, who made it quite clear that no top 4 would mean van gaal had to go.This despite the obvious, unmissable improvements made in such a short space of time.

Some peoples views are clouded by money. Money equals success, immediately, no ifs or buts. Its really not that simple though. Especially when the money is used to replace a huge number of outgoing players.

Some of us perhaps didn't realise the size of the task post SAF but have since been able to reevaluate the situation. That doesn't change the fact that some of us were able to see Moyes for what he was, pathetically out of his deptg. Many older United fans, who were around before the 80's consider it the biggest clusterfuck since 74. I assume their opinion > 80's fans?

Due to said clusterfuck, van Gaal had an even bigger job on his hands. He wasn't tasked with continuing Fergies legacy, but rebuilding the club, much like Fergie in 86 was brought in to revamp the club.

I don't what this to turn into another bore fest and seeing these pool fans lap it up is pretty sad, so I will leave it at that.
