The question about Corbyn is not what he wants to do, but whether he will survive a Labour Party coup before he can do it. The honeymoon period will be well and truly over before the next election, after all.

Serious question. Ireland are their own independent country, is he thinking about invading them to get the Irelands united? That's what would need to happen, either that or he's going to give away the Northern part and part of the United Kingdom to them foreigners. Wonder how some of the Northern Irish lads will feel about that...

Re-nationalisation of railways. Great, fantastic. But what does he actually expect to achieve by doing that ?
Against the HS2 link from London to the NW ? Why ? It would benefit the NW massively imo, as someone who has seen the effect a new TGV link to paris has done for a town 45 minutes from where I live. The local economy has been boosted massively; new property development, local shops opening, local property prices recovering, new jobs created etc. and that is an 2h TGV ride to paris.

Joint administration of the Falklands ? WTF ? The Argies would take full control within 5 years if we did that. The Falklanders consider themselves British + we would miss out on the oil reserves over there, which will soon become profitable to drill.

Open up the mines again ? Arent we supposed to be moving towards renewable energy sources ? Who would we sell the coal to ? it would be more expensive than imported sources.

NHS, stop the privatisation. I agree with that in theory, but what kind of shape is the NHS currently in? What does he expect to do with the NHS in order to improve the situation once he has stopped the privatisation ?

Maximum salary caps ? WTF ? The current French socialist government slapped a 75% tax on very high earners. They all buggered off to Switzerland and even Russia.

Close the corporate tax loopholes ? So all the international companies based in the UK offshore even more, and move HQ's to other countries ? If they want to see economic growth in the UK and new jobs created, you need to encourage the companies to invest in the UK, not bugger off to another one.

I cant be arsed going through the full list, but the majority of them are fanciful ideals with no substance.

Think he is a twat and dont agree with him on most points, but the rent to buy thing is in place in France but its an agreement between both parties, and isnt forced on anyone.

    1. Someone wants to buy a house
    2. Cant get a mortgage (too expensive and/or no deposit)
    3. Approach house owner (who is looking to sell/rent)
    4. Agree with house owner to a rent to buy contract

House is worth 250k at time of contract signature.

House will be rented for 5 years (or whatever the agreement is). Every month the rent is 800 quid.
(800x12)*5 = 48000 rent paid at end of 5 year period. lets say 50k

    250k (price of house at date of signature) - 50k = 200k

At the end of the 5 year period, the renters can buy the house for 200k which the their bank has already agreed to.

Not really worthy of it's own thread so I will just pop it on here.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Argentine soldiers were subjected to abuse and torture by their own superiors during the 1982 Falklands War against Britain, files released by Argentina's armed forces reveal.

They are the first official documents from the conflict to be made public and contain testimonies from soldiers who say they were poorly equipped and cold.

They say they were severely beaten for leaving the trenches to look for food.

The conflict over the islands cost the lives of more than 900 soldiers.

For years, war veterans have complained about the terrible conditions during the conflict, including lack of proper boots and coats, says the BBC's Ignacio de los Reyes in Buenos Aires.

The previously secret files describe mock executions and soldiers being tied up inside empty graves.

A lieutenant describes how another officer tied his hands and legs to this back and left him face down on the wet sand of a cold Falklands beach for eight hours.

A sergeant says he had to be operated on after being kicked in the testicles.

"These documents lift the veil on facts that were hidden for so many years by the armed forces," said Ernesto Alonso, from a veterans group in La Plata.

    'Exercise of colonialism'

The Falklands War began in April 1982, when Argentine troops invaded the British overseas territory which Argentina calls the Malvinas.

A British task force was sent to the area and regained control of the islands in June. Three Falklands civilians and 255 British servicemen died during the conflict.

The number of Argentine dead is estimated at about 650.

Argentine defeat precipitated the end of the country's brutal military government, which was already facing serious economic problems and lack of popular support.

Despite widespread criticism in Argentina of the 1982 invasion, most Argentines continue to claim the islands as theirs.

President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner has previously described British presence as "a blatant exercise of 19th-Century colonialism".

The British government says it will defend the self-determination of the islanders.

An overwhelming majority of Falkland residents voted in March 2013 to remain a British territory. About 2,900 people live on the islands.

Corbyn needs to realise that at this moment in time, Northern Ireland is very much part of the UK.
Until the majority of the population of Ulster decide they want to be with Dublin, that's the way it should remain.
I have absolutely no doubt he'll throw the Loyalists to the dogs given the chance.
The Loyalists will burn it to the ground & Ulster's street will again be awash with blood.
Funny thing is, I don't think Dublin want it.

You know a lot more about it then me mate. My best mates dad got killed in a car bomb in Enniskillen so I just hate the lot of it, full stop.

Even I can see a mile off that interfering with that is never going to end well. It's took decades to get the peace that's there now, why upset the applecart?

Corbyn doesn't need to do anything there. John Major already saw to it. He got the Provos to agree that democracy rules - i.e. for as long as Northern Ireland wants to be part of the U.K., they will be. But if ever Northern Ireland wants to join Dublin, we will give it to them. Because of the Catholic aversion to contraception, it is a matter of time before Catholics are in the majority there - and, therefore, the Northern Irish vote swings Dublin's way. The Conservatives have already agreed to give Northern Ireland away. It's just a matter of time.

This isn't party politics. Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a Manny Shinwell man, i.e. good is good and I'll back it. Bad is bad, and I'll oppose it Which party does what doesn't much matter a damn to me - it's the guy on the ground which matters. That is to say, I'll back Blair's minimum wage, and I'll back Thatcher's democratization of the unions by forcing postal votes on them. I don't swallow politics. John Major bought a short term peace in Ireland with a long term betrayal. That's the truth of it - the treacherous b**tard,

"Exercise of colonialism"? - F**king right it is - and how important is that?!!

One careless missile from one careless U.S. pilot could cut the Panama Canal for years. Canadian Air Force (with U.S. satellites) could monitor submarine movements round the N.W. passage with ease (normal traffic is f*cked anyway - Mother Nature sees to that, i.e. thick impassable ice). The only sure-fire way from the Pacific to the Atlantic is round the southern end of the Americas - and the Falklands (along with the uninhabited South Georgia) is so very close to Cape Horn and the Straits of Magellan.

Does this tw*t really believe we (or NATO) are ever going to give that up? He's f**king nuts. The Falklands are so strategically important, we'll defend it to the last. Look at the f**king atlas, man.

I am beginning to think Corbyn hates the British people and is intent on blaming us for everything that went wrong with this world, even Eve eating the apple. He is a fekin dangerous loon.

NATO was formed because there was a similar dangerous loon sitting in the Kremlin, wantiing to rule with oppressive force and killing anyone who dared question him. Guess what, there is a loon sitting in the Kremlin today, he's flying nuclear capable bomber aircraft up and down our borders.

Ireland has loons on both sides that want to control by force. Democracy won the day and there was hope, which Corbyn wants to shatter if he wants to force people into a united Ireland.

    China rules by oppressive force.

This country has fought the nazis, fought against oppresive communism, (let's not forget the lads who fought in N.Korea and Malaysia) against trumped up jingoistic idiots in Argentina and against despots in the Middle East. There is skullduggery everywhere but in the main I believe British Forces have tried to do things for the good of this world. They have now so many green, Amber, blue (and whatever colour cards they are now) to read before firing a single shot and up against Forces that couldn't give a ****.

Corbyn, a quietly spoken, mild mannered, shiny eyed, indoctrinated buffoon; the most dangerous of all loons as he will only ever listen to one side of a debate.....his! wouldn't be surprised if he thought Stalin a hero.
    Rant over

Agreed but will the Republic want the North?
Personally I don't think they'll touch it with a ****ing barge pole.
Their economy is ****ed & reuniting the two would be a big strain.
And mark my words - blood will flow. Have the Irish even got an army to contain the loyalists?
No, they'll expect us to do it. Well **** them, fenian ****s.

That's a good point, mate. I agree that it would produce bloodshed. The loyalists aren't going to take it lying down, even if it is democratically voted on. And if you and I know it, Dublin sure as hell does. You might well be right.

Anyone seen the circus going on here? Tony Abbot been fluffed by Malcom turnball. The same thing happened when labour were the top dogs, Julia Gillard took over from Kevin Rudd.. This has all happened in the last 5 years, makes our politicians look pretty hostile with all the internal party fighting/chopping and changing.. Has this ever happened in the UK? Corbin is 66 right? So he'll be 70 when the next election comes up <laugh>

Been paying attention. Gutted as I love Abbot for comedy value.

Thatcher was challenged by someone within the conservative party in 90' ( I forget who) and it led to a spill of power to John Major. Might have been Heseltine.

Not singing the national anthem at a battle of britian ceremony. A strange decision for someone who wants to be prime minister.
