17 Jul 2011 23:44:04 After a word from former team mate Craig Forsyth, Leigh Griffiths looks set to join the Hornets on loan for the season, i'm a Watford fan so have no reason to lie, decent signing? 17 Jul 2011 16:17:33 Kuqi and Iwelomu in talks with Watford both will be offered if Ipswich up their bid for Sordell to over £3G otherwise Iwelomu is the preferred option
The first one sounds like a Watford-type signing The 2nd one not so much! I do think we are getting a reputation up in Scotland at being able to develop players, which can only be a good thing!
18 Jul 2011 17:04:29 Chris Iwelumo had a medical at Watford today, will sign tomorrow 18 Jul 2011 16:59:47 Have a close contact with a member of staff at Southampton, we will make 2 signings this week. It won't be Maynard as people are saying. We only ever enquired (weeks ago) and were shocked at the price they wanted. The Sharp deal is dead. He wanted a high wage and relocation costs covered for by the club, that was a non-mover as soon as he requested it. The striker we have chosen to pursue is Marvin Sordell at Watford, a fee in the region of 1.75m rising to 2.5m has been agreed and he will travel to Staplewood in the next few days for talks. Another target, contrary to beliefs is not a CB - it's another winger. Keith Treacy from PNE is being sought after and we're hoping Mills impresses during his trial so he can be used as a sweeter in any deal. That should be our business, but we are monitoring the European leagues and a surprise may come out towards the end of the window. 1st bit good oh! 2nd bit I dont think so somehow!
erm, i hate to burst the Saints bubble, but Ipswich are offering 3G for him so 2.5mill just wont cut it. LMAO!!!!

Watford would laugh you off. Try 5.75 million rising to 10 million and you might have half a chance. Watford don't need the money and don't need to sell so if Southampton think they can get massive over inflated prices for their young players and then offer other clubs peanuts then they can think again.
I dont know how much to make of this. He doesnt seem the best striker we could get on the cheap and he seems a bit past his sell by. Judgeing by the quality of previous signings SD/RW/LB have made i cant see someone like this comming.
Unfortunately I think Iwelumo's name is bigger than his talent. He had a good season or two at Colchester, struck up a good partnership with Cureton, and has kind of lived off it since. Bit like Ellington with Roberts really. I do believe there are better options out there... only problem is, will these options come to Watford. Freebies look for a higher wage as they don't command a fee, but if we stick to our wage structure, that makes it more difficult. He might be a good 'Plan B', coming off the bench... but if he does come in, would like to think he would be 3rd or 4th choice.
