I'd have the 3-5-2. Then at least we have a spare centre half for when one of the other two or the keeper inexplicably **** up. It has become an expectation rather than an exception.

If I remember correctly the home game last season against West Spam, was one of the better games last season, we played a mid-field diamond with Huddleston at the base and Diame at the head. That worked well and maybe worth a go.

    McGregor

    Moses Dawson Davies Robertson

    Huddlestone
    Elmo Aluko

    Diame

    Hernandez Akprom

I think we should go 352 away all the time and try to dominate the midfield. Really don't think we can play Huddlestone if we go 442.
    Macgregor
    Davies, Bruce, Dawson
    Elmo, Robertson
    Huddlestone,
    Diame, Meyler,
    Hernandez, Aluko.

Would rest Chuba for a while or use him late on in games.

Not bothered about formation but give Elmo the right side to himself and let Odubajo earn his place. Our attack looks poor whoever we pick up there but a bit of freedom going forward would be good.

    Dawson Bruce Davies
    Elmo Meyler Huddlestone Diame Robertson
    Hernandez Akpom

None of our signings have been good enough. Akpom is only in cos there's no one else.

No fresh injury concerns ahead of midweek visit to Cardiff....

The Tigers have no fresh injury worries following the weekend defeat at Brighton, meaning manager Steve Bruce will select from the same group of players when his squad make the journey to Cardiff City on Tuesday night.

And Bruce admits he is still searching for the right formula on the road as his side look for a first away win of the season.

“We’re still in the learning process but we now have a good nucleus of players to work with day in and day out to find a system that suits us,” said Bruce.

“We predominantly play 4-4-2 and with Diame coming back from injury it gives us that excellent (selection) problem, but of course it’s where do you get the best out of him.

“A free role is key to him and it’s something that we’re looking at.

“We have to find the right away formula to make sure we’re better than we were in the first half at Brighton and Charlton to give us a chance of getting a win.”

Shaun Maloney (knee), Adama Diomande (groin) and Robert Snodgrass (knee) all missed the defeat on the south coast and remain on the sidelines.

Cardiff are set to be without defender Ben Turner (ankle) and striker Federico Macheda (back)with manager Russell Slade likely to name the same side that beat Huddersfield at the weekend.

My prediction is a slow start, 1-0 Cardiff early doors, with us being lucky it's only 1. Players playing out of position in a formation they look uncomfortable with, a distinct lack of tempo and ideas with us looking second best against a side with far inferior footballers, until we have a little flurry in the last 10 minutes once its already too late.

    2-1 Cardiff.

Cardiff to score inside 6 minutes with some defensive or goalkeeping guffaw.

Why is a free role key for him? He's not Messi. Surely he can be one of the Cm two, one goes one stays. The way its always been. Paul Scholes had to play alongside Keane or Butt and do both roles. Gerrard alongside Hamman. Mcdermott alongside Souness. He's a good enough player to be able to play a proper CM role FFS. Dont complicate it.

just seems playing odubajo and elmo on the right isn`t working in a 442, maybe it is time to return to 352, elmo and robbo as the wing backs with meyler, diame and thudd or clusas in the middle three. Up front i would be prepared to give luer a shot (can`t do any worse) and one other, tbh given the way the rest of them have played lately could be any of them cos no one has stood as out.

Bruce won't drop Dave after just paying £3.5M for him, not a chance.

I agree and its true he's been one of the few who has done ok. It would be harsh to drop him but our most consistent player has now gone off the boil after rarely ever haviing a bad game. Its just a head scratcher why we bought him. Elmo must have been on his way.

The only way to give Diame a free role is to go 3-5-2 again, poor old Sterling Archer will be jumping off a bridge if that happens. Maybe 4-4-1-1 at a shot if we had a striker to trust as the one, unfortunately we have a ten million striker who can't do that job in the Championship

Wonder if Diame could do a job as a 2nd striker? just a thought.

forget that idea ive just read an article in a paper when Diame played at West ham and he said" they played me all over the place even as a striker when all I wanted to play was in central midfield"

Might not work but 442 with Clucas left and Moses right with Huddlestone and Diame in the middle...that way Clucas can drop in to centre mid if needed to give us the extra man. Elmo and Robertson as full backs and they can overlap from deep. Aluko and Hernandez up front, with Aluko covering left occasionally if we need Clucas in middle. If that don't work, I'm sacking myself in the morning

Plus another 2. Our best friends from Sydney are going to the match. Currently winding down a 6 year holiday in Europe they are in the area staying near the Gower peninsula. I have asked them to go along and help cheer the Tigers to victory. No problem for her as she is a Swansea fan and he will do as she says!
