    GERRARD: 'RODGERS MADE ME TEXT TOP STARS TO CONVINCE THEM TO JOIN LIVERPOOL'

    Yes you read that correctly. Cringe or what!

    As Gerrard explains:

    'I had an unofficial role at the club, trying to persuade some great players to join Liverpool. It was the same ritual every summer. The club would let me know which long-shot target they had in mind and then ask me to contact him. They thought that a request to consider moving to Liverpool would have more impact coming from me.'

    He admits that one 'long-shot target' was very ambitious indeed:

    ‘Brendan asked me to take a crack at trying to talk Toni Kroos into signing for Liverpool. He smiled when I said we’d be p***ing into the wind with this one...I knew Real Madrid were gearing up to make Bayern Munich an offer and so I felt a bit awkward when I texted Kroos. The German was on his way to winning the World Cup with his country and Real were the champions of Europe.

    ‘Some of the best footballers in the world can also be the most respectful. Kroos didn’t make me feel like I was a total idiot. But, of course, he would soon sign for Real Madrid. We had a nice little exchange of texts and I said well done and good luck.’

    So Rodgers cannot even do his own work. Those starsprobably thought 'this guy isnt even manenough to call me'.

    Its like getting your best friend to ask a girl out for you...

    It wasn't so long ago that people were moaning that our club needed a ambassador. Why not a player-ambassador...?

    It is cringeworthy though. If you're going to do it then do it properly, not with a bloody text message.

    Spot on, remember Werner's glowing tribute to Rodgers in august?

    If things go from bad to worse and FSG stick with Rodgers they better get the tin hats out because they'll get loads of deserved flak from the crowd at Anfield.

    Werner seems to forget the Suarez factor played the biggest part in us finishing 2nd and Brendan getting his managers gong.

    This isn't unusual.

    Alex Ferg used to get the likes of Neville to do the same during England friendlies and you see it at the end of fixtures some times.

    Barca when Henry was at Arsenal in the champs league final for example.

    This certainly is cringe-worthy. Had it been Gerrard's idea to have a word with maybe one or two players he knew the club were after to see if that helped, maybe, but being asked to do it by Rodgers, that's embarrassing.

    Crap. I thought it was a prank when I got a text saying

    "Messi, my pumpkin, dump that loser team and join Liverpool - love Gerrard"

    If I had realised it was legit and just a wrong number I would have told him he had the wrong number, he could have found the right number and Messi would be playing for us today.

    I feel like I am responsible for our poor season. :(

    Nice of him to admit he intentionally stamped on Herrera. I like how he simply couldn't control himself. Not for the first time mind.

    And who would have thought he regretted not joining United?

    Was this book written by him or did he at least have some input? Because its gold, pure comedy gold.
