Did anybody attend/volunteer/compete in the Hull Marathon yesterday? I can't compare it to other marathons as it's the first I've run in but I was very impressed. It seemed well organised. The volunteers were helpful, friendly and very supportive. They were truly a credit to the city. A great event I felt.
From what I saw there was more volunteers than runners. I noticed they were limited to 4,000 but less than 1000 actually run the full marathon
There was 819 runners taking place in the individual race and 119 teams of four for the relay race. http://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/1-00...tory-27788920-detail/story.html#ixzz3li3G5dsW
I don't think they are bad numbers for the first year. Especially when it was up against the Great North Run.
It was an organisation clock up Hessle cut off for 4 hours. Didn't know anything about route until Monday before when posters attached to lampposts.
I went and watched on Boothferry Rerd, i was very impressed at how many quite old folk were competing. There were load of people complaining in and around the south side of Heads Lane because they were totally trapped as all roads in every direction were closed. But the event was good and seemed well organised.
Ridiculous decision to cut off half the city from the other side for a few hundred fun-runners. Why couldn't they just get them to run up and down the humber bridge 26 times?
