I completely agree that they should.

But they should have walked it in 2012 and 2014 and still managed to take it to the wire against a patently inferior Liverpool team and a Utd side with a serious injury to pretty much every senior player. I've learned to never write off City's ability to make what should be easy look extremely difficult!

    I suppose.
Letting it go down to the last game of the season in 2012, and winning it on goal difference, was ridiculous.
I think they had had a 9 point lead over United at one point or some **** like that, and let it go down to needing a last minute winner on the final day to win on goal difference <laugh>

  3. Confidence appears to be a key factor in football. Look at Chelsea! No way they should be playing the way they do, not with the squad they have, but they're playing like they have absolutely no belief in anything.

This £ity side is playing like one that doesn't appear the know the meaning of the word 'failure.'

I think that's part of the problem - they are a side that very much knows the meaning of the word failure. They can put it out of their minds right now when everything is running smoothly and they are flying, but over the past four years as soon as they hit a snag it rapidly turns into a major issue for them.

People always used to say of Utd under SAF that they feared playing them after a defeat because they knew there would be a positive response. With City over the past few seasons it seems to be that people want to play them after a defeat as they can sense blood and as often as not there will be a negative response.

To be fair it seems to be common to all the top sides at the moment, with Chelsea being the best example. But unless City can prove they have learned to bounce back after bad results and not let the fear of failure get to them then I think the title will end up being closer than a lot of people expect at this point.

  5. City haven't known what it's like to lose for quite a while, now.

    Not only City.

People have short memories. A few seasons ago, Chelsea were several points ahead in November, had won most of their matches and no one could see where their next dropped points would come from. Soem london papers even suggested that we might as well give them the title now and let the competition for 2nd place start.

A few months later, United had caught up as Chelsea's run came to an end.

United had a start of 12 wins in the old 1st division. I thought that was it. The title at last but Big Ron managed to **** it up.

    My point exactly.

Could make it all that much more damaging when the loss finally happens.

  9. Depends on who they lose to and under what circumstances, Swarbs.

But, yes, I agree; it could be interesting. I thought they demonstrated great character in their last game.

Good news for you guys, West Ham are beating Newcastle so you won't slip into the relegation places.

Yep, we had a big say in Liverpool winning the league that season (85/6). Went to your place and won 2-1 to end your title challenge (got home at 430am on a school night aged 14, parents not happy!), did the same at Upton Park to end West Ham's, 2-1 again, and rolled over and gave Liverpool the title at SB on the final day

Finally a sensible post about City. Giving them the league in Sept is red-top rubbish

City have a bad patch every season, although so do most team I guess. Hopefully this is ours. City will have a poor run around new year, 1 win in 6 or something similar and the media will start to question whether they are good enough. It's what they do. If we went on to win five in a row we'd probably be reinstalled as title favourites.

Everyone has a poor run, though ours seems largely self inflicted. We should come good, but even when we do players like Fabregas, JT and Ivan are close to being past their best, so I cant see us improve enough to win anything without some help from above.
City will have their blip too but should win from here. Arsenal ?????
If any team can improve enough to catch City its Utd for mine. They have restructured reasonably well and now Van Gaal needs to show he really is a manager who can cut it in the PL. If he is, Utd could have a good run.

The business with the medical team, I think has bitten deeper inside the squad, than we seem to believe . Jose would be doing himself a great favour to make a formal apology to Eva Carniero and the rest, but I fear apologies are not in his genes!

I wonder if that lose will dent their confidence in the league?
