Renationalising rail is a moderate policy which the majority of British people agree with (easy to Google the opinion polls). Are you seriously suggesting that the ****e of the current rail system in Britain is superior to the old British Rail? I see. So the solution to the lack of safety in the mines was - shut them all down and chuck the miners on the dole! Ah, before the Second World War. Only posh kids could go to university because there were high fees and no grants. Everything was privatised. Trade unions were shackled. Seems very much the Tory (and New Labour) way.
Well he does look a bit like Wolfie, or was it Foxy? Imagine the benefits man, we could have all the old favourites back. Alf Garnet, Love Thy Neighbor, the IRA blowing people up again. Takes me right back to my childhood, how I hanker for those days.
I commuted into London for 25 years. In spite of occasional bad press, on the whole, they're faster, cleaner, safer and more reliable than they were in the good old days. But forget about that. How's he going to pay for it? The mines didn't close down because they weren't safe. They were mostly worked out and uneconomic. If it's cheaper to bring coal all the way from Chile or Peru than from under our own feet, then buy it in. Corbyn only wants to go back to the 70s, not the 30s mate. Relic would be the expert on that period, not me. I went to uni, early 80s. Nowt posh about me mate. My old man's side were mining stock and my mum lived down next to the shipyards in Deptford during the war.
Easy, it won't cost a penny. The privatisation of rail is on a franchise system. Every X years the franchises come to an end. So you don't renew them and the franchise returns to the state. Bit by bit rail is renationalised. However, there's a deeper problem here. How come no politician has the balls to point this out so an intelligent bloke like you even has to ask this? And there we disagree. I don't care if the mines were "uneconomic". Britain is a fabulously wealthy society, part of the G8, instead of giving privatisation sweeteners to various parasites or invading Iraq the mines could have been kept open (I'm mixing eras here I admit!) Huge apologies if you think I was having a go at you there mate, I don't think in any way you are posh! I wasn't being personal. I like the debates here where serious topics are discussed without there being personal abuse! Just you & me on politics don't agree! I was just pointing out that I was able to go to university (1985-89), which would have inconceivable for my parents' generation, and the Tories and New Labour have turned the clock back.
No need to apologise mate , I didn't think you were having a go at all. I just misunderstood your point about that. I do take your point about the train companies being franchises though and therefore the rolling stock still actually being owned by the public sector. So is it the rail network thats in private hands? Don't think we'll ever agree on the mining issue though mate.
The good news is......He will NEVER win and election, the man is unelectable with his thoughts and beliefs, the bad news is...we are stuck with the Tories for at least another 2 terms until Labour realize they need someone who not only can lead the party, but get the British public on board as well.
I could not be less interrsted in a thread (well apart from the cricket one). But will this push more voters towards ukip?
Is that a good thing or a bad thing? Surely the only winners are the tories if some labour voters jump to ukip
I would assume it would be a bad thing. Surely they must aim to win voters back not lose some more...
No credible opposition anymore. With their current stance on immigration and with the targeting of the 'British' Jihadis in Syria, Conservatives could possibly be building their support even more.
Entirely predictable. Despite her saying after the comprehensive loss last year that the vote was a once in a generation event she has done nothing but push for another ever since. Sadly though this does play in to her hands given that the Tories will never win in Scotland, Labour are the only credible party of opposition to the SNP and that credibility has now been severely dented. Expect her to announce that they will push for another vote next year. Cameron is in a reasonably strong position though and will most likely block it.
Losing voters to UKIP is a very bad thing..As for the SNP, I honestly don't think it makes much difference..
Had on. Havnt the tories just announced a multi multi billions of pounds project for the faslane area. Which will create thousands of jobs and revitalise the whole area.
Sturgeon was saying yesterday that the people of Scotland will never support the Tories. In other words it doesn't matter what they do in terms of creating jobs and prosperity in Scotland the SNP are going to paint them as being the devil and anti Scottish. Who'd have thought it - a politician pushing their own agenda over what may be better for the electorate!!!!!
