Sunderland's Dick Advocaat admits he may stay on for SECOND year as Black Cats boss "Let’s wait until the end of the season, but I don’t rule it out, you never know," says Black Cats boss who signed one-year deal in summer Dick Advocaat has not ruled out staying another year at Sunderland. The ex-Holland boss was persuaded to ditch retirement plans by Black Cats owner Ellis Short, after guiding the club to safety last season. But it has been a fraught start to the season for the 67-year-old, who is bottom of the Premier League after the first month – and had to fight for new signings in the transfer window. Advocaat signed a one-year deal in the summer, but he has indicated he could stick around for another season, if the Wearside club make progress. He said: “I’m not allowed to say I want to stay, I don’t want to talk about myself. Let’s wait and see. “We’ve got good people here, good staff, people who know the game, who played at a high level and they know the way I work. “We still have a year to go and, hopefully, we can make some small steps in that time. Let’s wait until the end of the season, but I don’t rule it out, you never know.” One player Advocaat is delighted to have retained is striker Jermain Defoe, who faces former Tottenham team-mates on Sunday, but is unlikely to start as the main striker as Fabio Borini returns to the Sunderland squad. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I had a feeling he would sign again if we improve this season. I've been saying it for weeks now but I genuinely feel we have a winning combination with DA and Congerton. We have just had a great transfer window where we have brought in real quality and players that have hit the ground running. I'm sure he will want to finish the job off and leave us in good shape before he hands over the reigns.
Great thread title. If we improve. Well he.s the gaffer. So a lot of it is in his own hands. Heres hoping.
Rumours about this Dick extension have been greatly exagerated, like most stories about 'dick' and some are getting too excited about the possibility of our Dick having more 'staying power' than at first thought It's not the length of the contract that's important anyway . . . . it's what Dick does with it that matters Too much talk leads to premature excitement for me, so let's not cum to conclusions too soon
I like it.... How did Julio play yesterday and what position did he play? I gathered Noble was a load of sh1te.
Hoolioooo played on the left side of midfield, and his 'class' was obvious As the first half progressed his understanding with his marras seemed to improve and he was creating chances for them (including Ryan, who was terrible - and obviously frustrated). Ryan improved in the second half (he had to) and Hoolioooo maintained his standard 'Sheels controlled most of the match, but couldn't confirm their superiority against a poor Stokesley team A good crowd were frustrated, 'cos we hoped/expected for a few goals in a convincing home victory . . . . that sounds familiar
Yes, far to familiar Reet, I'm digging me boots out and I'll show Ryan how it's done . I never realised that Arca was only 34 mind, he will dominate that league once he's had a few games and up to full speed I'm off for my shower now and then I'm off to Beamish. Enjoy the match matey
