I think it's fair to say sometimes your are blinded by your love for the club. Sometimes you get stuff right but you get a lot wrong.
Think that applies for everyone tbh. We all get it wrong sometimes. Its normal. Its all opinion anyway. I'm actually quite critical tbh, I'm not blind to some of the shire we produce in games. I'm more likely to focus on the positives of course, but I tend to find myself balancing some of the feeling of sheer hopelessness displayed by some on here.
I actually think I can see where the team is heading. You have to remember that last year we added several new players to the team (not just the squad) and they had to learn a new style (LvG) whilst gelling as a unit. This season we have done the same, I genuinely believe that once the new team (and squad) are settled van Gaal will give them more freedom to create because he will feel the control is total.
I think we need to thank our lucky stars that the Pirlo esque talent of Jordan Henderson wasn't around today. We'd of been in big trouble had he been around today
I see FIFA have him on there front cover, it must be because the majority of fat lazy scousers have no jobs, so have nothing better to do other than play computer games all day
On a slightly more serious note, - This RS team was/is one of the worst they've had in recent history. - they don't have any outstanding players. Benteke is merely above average as a striker and does not even fit their style. Coutinho another better than average player was not on the pitch. - their manager is LVG 's bitch. Whenever they meet, Brenda just bends over. - I am still frustrated how our players play with reticence. They do the safe lateral pass rather the penetrating forward one in case they lose the ball. Is LVG to blame ? UIR s explanation that the players lack confidence lack credibility as these are seasoned international players. -But we have the players and the ability to change whenever required. Young is continuing his last season form. Far from being the donkey UIR says he is, he is crucial as an alternative to a tired/pedestrian Memphis. - beating the RS is no big deal now. Especially at OT. If we had been beaten by this shower yesterday I myself would have (extremely rare for me) would have called for LVG 's head. - despite martial's young age, I am still a bit disappointed and concerned about getting rid of so much young talent. Januzaj has been loaned, Blackett and Welbeck sold, and now Wilson being loaned out. United have always given their academy products a chance. - great morale boosting victory. But let's not go overboard. Despite this week being an absolute great week for the club, I would reserve judgement on whether to extend LVG's contract. He said he definitely will go for domestic reasons. Woodward should start planning for succession in the next few years. This is not being disloyal or negative. This is recognising reality and thinking of the next stage of our recovery. - like LVG himself would say, we are engaged in a process And.. - as I have said before Martial represents the most exciting prospect we've had in years. Far from being the last minute panic buy the press has decreed the move has been planned. I don't bet very often but treble's bet that he is more likely to be bebe than Henry will be a loser.
LVG is just taking you for a huge payday.... If finishing top four is good enough for you guys then enjoy his retirement party.
I don't think any United fan would be content with just fourth. Fourth plus a cup and reasonable European run (quarters) would be a step in the right direction for most I'd assume as an outsider looking in. The way Chelsea are going, they should really be targeting third now at the very least.
When you have quality midfielders like Carrick and Bastian its "easy" to dictate pace and tempo. Scoring goals and closing out games is the hard part. Pep makes it look easy as he had Silva and Messi and now has Ribery, Robben and Muller. Arsene has been making it look nigh on possible for years!
I believe he recently made a thread about United's squad being the biggest flops in the league which I assume is going well.
A reasonable post Christian and I agree with near enough all of it. I didn't actually make a bet btw. I just felt that comparisons with Henry for an unknown were premature and would rather no comparisons were made at all at this stage. HOWEVER, if comparisons are being made then the opposite should also be considered, which given the circumstances make them more likely. I still stick by my original point that to compare him to anyone is stupid, and actually doing the press a favour bcos it's setting him up to fail. They had Henry on SkySports yesterday before and after the match. Imagine Martial hadn't scored, they would've mocked the comparison I'm sure. How long before they do? I just don't think it's clever helping them to do that.
Confidence is a huge part of football Smith. It effects all players at every level. Being seasoned internationals doesn't change that either. Young did well yesterday too. Deserves to start.
I watched the game yesterday, the first half was like watching paint dry, but the second half though, what a performance by us and Martial took his goal very well too.
Tbh I think we need to get second place or better for this season to be counted as a success. Chelsea are shot (called that before the season started tbh) and will need to spend in Jan to get fourth spot, and if we should be able to finish ahead of Arsenal given the relative levels of quality in the squads. Mounting a genuine title challenge might be a bridge too far, given the money City have spent and the quality they have, but there is no reason we can't be the one that gets closest to them. If we end up third or fourth then we will have underperformed imo. He's busy trying to work out how many more games Mourinho has to lose to make this the worst start to any Chelsea season in history
