A giant crane has collapsed killing many Muslims at the Meccas Grand Mosque in Saudi Arabia.

They're not sure of the exact number dead but have recovered 87 pairs of sandals at the entrance.

Nah, that`s just their god, Allan, warning them to keep their heads down ready for when Iran starts chucking nuclear missiles (Which they haven`t got and have no intention of ever having because their nuclear programme is entirely peaceful, yeah right.) at them.

I had a bit of a rant a few days ago at a post @Dick's Bols made about how concerned he was about our future.

I always try to take the view that things are never quite as bad as they seem, that one should step back and try and see the bigger picture, the longer view, and see where we are now from a historical perspective. Nothing is new. Everything that happens now has already happened in the past.

The only difference is that, Hannibal, Caesar, Sun Tzu, Napoleon, or Hitler didn't have nukes.

I think I may have done @Dick's Bols a public disservice. Maybe we should be worried.

Just to add, I'm rat-arsed. I might even be on the wrong thread <laugh>, but hey ho,.... What were we talking about?

Been away for a while so sorry I missed this, but that is what Gorbachev spoke about at the UN, he even hinted that NATO was disbanded now that there would be no cold war syndrome. Glasnost and perestroika or openness and reconstruction were his proposals as he believed Russia could run on democratic lines.

After the czars and communism the Russians had a fit at that proposal.

Gorbachev realised the USSR couldn't outspend the West on arms. His mistake was in thinking his own position would be secure once the wall fell and that he'd be able to talk to the west on equal terms. That was naive in the extreme.

I can remember thinking at one point that Russia would join NATO during the late 80s, early 90s.

Such a shame that never happened.

Yet the reasons he rose to prominence within the party was how he increased productivity in the region where he was general secretary of the party. Moscow was highly impressed but his reply was that he offered incentives for greater output. In other words there was a bonus if quota was exceeded as he explained in a BBC documentary Andropov was impressed to the the point that he asked Gorbachev to draw up national plans and that was when the grooming for him to be top man started.

If the lunatics get hold of the nukes mate we`re all screwed.

I know your missus is muslim. (I think Sammy skills is aswell). I haven`t met mrs BM but some on this board have and reckon she`s a smashing lass. It ****s my head up completely thinking that there are those of their own faith who would cut the throats of those girls without a moments hesitation and genuinely believe they were absolutely right to do so.

I don`t give a **** who or what anybody worships. In fact, it`s amazing how many ****s I don`t give. They can all bow down and worship Ernie Snicketts Middle Bollock for all I care but when they want to chop my head off for not joining in is when I get a strop on.

That`s strop on Billy not strap on. Strewth what you have to do <doh>

If the Rat Arse is a pub mate I`m in the bar. <cheers>

At the time the Berlin Wall, Iron Curtain & Warsaw Pact fell I thought it would be good for the world.
Now I'm not so sure. The Cold War kept the balance of power for years.
Two world superpowers in the USA & the Soviet Union. Both afraid to push the nuclear button.
We no longer have that balance do we?

I think you`ve nailed it with the word `balance` Billy.

It is a matter of balance because both sides knew that neither could win.

With ISIS it`s different. They`re ******s. If they get get them they`ll use them.

It's that good that each and every one of them choose to shout about it moments before their impending death.

Yesterdays awful carnage in Mecca is bringing out all the conspiracies (albeit I do love a juicy conspiracy) , various political 9/11 rhetoric and religious nuts it was 'Gods Retribution' apparently ... as far as conspiracies are concerned here is an image of yesterdays events (supposedly)

plus you couldn't make it up if you wanted to - it reported that the Crane that toppled was supplied (constructed) by the 'Bin Laden' family ...

The Saudi's have a strange idea of what constitutes public and private safety.

Hundreds, probably thousands, have died in the last thirty years or so, since the advent of mass pilgrimage from one reason or another, mass stampedes, bridge and building collapses, etc.

I saw cars fly pass me on the motorway outside Riyadh with 3 or 4 year olds standing on the front passenger seat.

I knew of babies and children brought into hospital with horrendous injuries from crashes. Parents were never to blame. It was always Gods will.
