He's a Bryan Ruiz type - bit crap here, but will be devastating in an international against England at some point.
We couldn't possibly be less troubled by FFP this season. Main motivation is almost certainly to i) save a little cash, and ii) move on a player with limited utility who, most likely, isn't particularly happy wearing civvies every match.
I believe he still had two years to go on his contract? I am hearing he was on a lot less than the £60 thousand suggested by others. (nearer £40 thousand) it just didn't work out for him in EPL. I sincerely hope he gets another decent club to take him on. Good luck to him
He may be a good player, but he was rubbish for us considering how much we paid for him. Really poor signing.
Gaston and Osvaldo are examples of the disadvantage of being in the premier league and all its wealth. The money brings them in, but if they flop and no other EPL teams want them then you're pretty screwed. I suspect plenty of mid-table Spanish & Italian sides would be interested, but we're paying him treble the wages they can afford.
Farewell Gaston, £12m plus wages......can't get it right every time in the transfer market but it is what it is. On the flip side £1.5m for Morgan 6 years later £25m Ching Ching.
Better than that, sign Lovren for £8mill, one season later sell for £20mill. He then turns out to be **** and we all have a good laugh at Liverpool's expense.
Well, a bit of an underwhelming signing really!! Think of the money we wasted on him, Osvaldo, Forrenn & Mayuka under Cortese. None of them did anything for us, yet cost us.
He was/is on £65,000 a week according to the Daily Mirror...... Southampton midfielder Gaston Ramirez, 24, is negotiating to cancel his £65,000-a-week contract having been told by manager Ronald Koeman he does not have a future at St Mary's. (Daily Mirror)
Difficult to know who speaks the truth on these things, but it isn't in either parties interest to make this public and for the Mirror to know this is true. I can't believe we were paying him that much, it would blow our salary structure out of the water. How much would you pay Jose on this basis? How did we lose Toby if we're prepared to pay Gaston that much? Checking his stats he scored 12 goals in 58 appearances for Bologna, sounds good, we should sign him now he's on a free. Although as he was born in Fray Bentos and did well at the home of Baloney maybe he should try and sign for Melton Mowbray
I never thought he was particularly good player. Three different managers thought the same. Likeable character, but a bad signing and big waste of money.
Osvaldo, Forren and Gaston were all done when Nicola was here....does this mean he interfered more in purchases than our present chairman (who probably does not get involved at all in the football side) and we are better off now letting Les get on with it. I suspect Nicola carried on when he got his teeth into something, whereas we are now more willing to put a transfer on the back burner and move on to our second choice (who is probably an equally good fit). It may also have something to do with our better profile giving us more choice and not having to pursue players with problems.
I generally look at transfers with a 50/50 success rate I think last seasons transfers in were fairly unusual in their success
We do tend to forget that other teams have failures, even when very expensive players go to top 4 teams.
