24 hours ago everyone on here was predicting DDG leaving in January based on how LVG allegedly treated him. So... now he signs a new contract and he's doing United and LVG a favour. Makes perfect sense

It's the closest we will ever get to the truth and certainly better than "sources close to". This time it appears to have been true as DdG has been happy to sign another long term contract with an option for a further year. Not the actions of a man who feels he has been treated badly

 

It wasn't a comment on the De Gea situation (I've barely been online the last month or so so haven't followed what happened in detail, or even read the quote referred to), but while I agree that direct quotes are better than none, some managers in particular have direct quotes that don't mean very much (otherwise we'd never have signed Balotelli...)

So why was he dropped when he was fit?

It's true he'd have left if the deal hadn't bit the dust at the last minute, its true Mr Potato Head dropped him.
He was treated with the same disrespect the manager thought De Gea had shown to his club and manager, he's " happy" to sign a mega-money contract in the knowledge he's in a win win financial position whether Real come back in for him or not and Utd are now guaranteed a financial result if he leaves next summer.
He never signed his new contract through loyalty because he has shown his loyalty is to himself only, which is fair enough, its what players do when they aren't local or have never been fans of the club from childhood.
