Mrs Thatcher was the only major European politician at the time who predicted the problems that the fall of the Iron Wall would cause. Reunification nearly bankrupted Germany, which in turn has led them to pursue aggressive economic policies which have been much to the detriment of the Euro Zone (particularly Greece). The fall of the Wall led inevitably to accession for former Iron Curtain countries, which has proved to be an unmitigated disaster for the UK. How on earth can you 'converge' with countries like Poland that have a 10% of your GDP, and an average annual wage of £8,000.

I will never forgive Blair for turning my country and city into a smelly outpost of Kraków.

Free movement of labour was supposed to mean you could easily take up a job in another country. It did not mean you could just roll up and claim benefits with no hope of getting a job because you can't speak English.

I just had a letter from our hospital. On the back were 17 different languages. FFS, if you can't read English you shouldn't be entitled to use the NHS.

Britain has become a cess-pit. Dug by Labour but not filled in by spineless Tories. Look at Cameron's latest 48 hours - no Syrians here, OK, 10000 Syrians, alright 20000 Syrians.

U.S. Media reporting this morning that the father of the dead child Aylan Kurdi is a boat captain and people trafficker, it might explain how he got back to Syria for the funeral so quickly.

More to this than meets the eye.

The MPs' approach to the euthanasia bill is softening at a time when houses and resources are in short supply.

Looks like there's only one way we're going to settle this..... Crusade or Reconquista, depending on what angle you're taking it from.

It's now reported that Isil and Assad's forces are both using chemical weapons on civilians. And Russia are getting involved. Have a listen to Randy Newman's Political Science (or Let's Drop the Big One)

Shame on this country for backing Saudi Arabia, one of the most barbaric regimes anywhere, in there bombing campaign on the Yemen. Oops I forgot, they've got oil, and are a lucrative market in the arms trade.

Now Saudi Arabia is going to help:

Saudi Arabia have controversially offered to help Germany cope by building at least 200 mosques.
The rich Gulf state said it would build one mosque for every 100 Middle Eastern refugees who entered Germany.

How nice of them, how about taking the refugees yourselves!

I certainly agree with that weststand. There has'nt been much on this thread I've been in agreement with, but while it's not exactly an easy journey for refugees to get to Saudi Arabia and UAE, the fact is that once they are out of Syria, and in a place where planes can land, the Gulf States could certainly take in a few.Given the amount of construction going on in Dubai, they could also offer work. My understanding is that most of those fleeing Syria are the upper/middle class, so people with degrees. But hey, I've got a degree and still spent eleven years on building sites. When you've gotta feed the kids, you take a job and work.

I've seen that some fans are hoping to raise a 'Refugees Welcome' banner at today's game like the Germans have been doing. Wonder how that will go down?

Judging by Facebook - not very well. Several posts had the be deleted this week as it descended on racism. Some people even threatened a fight if they saw it.

I used to know of the person who's 'come up with' the idea. So I wouldn't be opposed to the threat of physical violence!

I thought the banner was made on Roland's instruction. It reads "Refugees Welcome, Bring Your Boots"
