http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/6630752/Dutch-in-Ron-SOS.html Knew this would start to come up!
As said, we knew this would come up as soon as Holland began to struggle. We could all have written this ourselves. The first thing is, of course, that Koeman has a history of completing contracts...oh, that more people were like that. But another factor is that it is an entirely different job from managing your own team....none of the players are yours, you are involved in a great deal of politics and negotiations to even get your best players available, and there are long periods where you are not involved in actual football at all. It comes down to what job you prefer....many would prefer managing their own team. Managing your country's side is regarded as an honour and is well paid, but can be a poisoned chalice.
His employment history has shown that he will see out the rest of his contract and move on so if the Holland job is available at that time, I am sure he would love to manage them however not sure what his relationship with the Dutch FA is like bearing in mind a previous episode when the job was up for grabs
The Dutch FA may rescue United just as the Scottish FA rescued us from a disastrous manger in George Burley
The rags aren't happy unless they can write about someone leaving Saints. The transfer window is shut so it's Ronald's turn. He has said before that he wouldn't go and he seems like a man of his word.
Ronald really does not get on with Bert van Oostveen (heads up the Dutch FA) so there's been talk before that Ronald wouldn't go into that job with him around. Supposedly, Ronald was led to believe he was replacing Louis van Gaal - hence running his Feyenoord contract down - but then got told that BvO had a change of opinion and was going to appoint Guus Hiddink instead. Which then, of course, led to Ronald coming to Southampton instead...
Clutching at straws here but that might make him once bitten twice shy about running his contract down with us. I'm resigned to the fact that he'll go at the end of three years but also irrationally keen to believe any rumour or faint hope that he might not, no matter how spectral it might be. Vin
I agree it would be wonderful if Koeman showed faith in us by signing an extension to his contract. In fact we would party like it was.....the day Koeman signed a contract extension.
I know people will chuckle at the thought of someone suggesting this, but I wouldn't entirely rule it out that he'll sign an extension. Saints are exactly the sort of setup he loves and wants, and he's said as much. I think the problem with the Dutch National team is that they are doing a France. They don't respect their manager and are demonstrating it. That's the problem for Saints. Ronald's sheer popularity and respect with players. But he often doesn't get along with those in authority, so it's not all cut and dried.
http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/13712720.Koeman__I_wouldn_t_leave_Southampton_for_Holland_job/ “Everybody knows it’s part of my ambition, but in the future – not for now, not for next year. Maybe in the future, but not at this time.” Which part of the statement do you not believe?
Plenty of fans thought we'd sell Wanyama even when the club said no one is for sale. If the media keep stirring the pot then these quotes get buried
Agree 100% I have a feeling he will sign an extension , don't ask me why , I just do . Hope Erwin stays as well .
