Does the England football team interest you?

  1. Every match they play is important and I try to watch

  2. I might miss some friendlies but everything else I try to watch

  3. I watch the tournament finals matches once every two years

  4. I might watch them if they play a big team once in a blue moon

  5. I no longer have any interest in the England football team

Frenchiness aside I do like their anthem. Rousing stuff that. Mind you I have no idea what they're saying but it's a jaunty old number. I always cringe when we boo other nations anthems and then follow it with our sh*t. Frankly, I'm glad when opposing fans boo over it!

I just find it funny that you like the royal family. They don't exactly have a clean cut history to say the least.

I think the immediate royal family, in particular the queen work very hard for the country, I think the royals help keep strong ties with the common wealth countries and economically they are a benefit to the country generating far more income for the country than they cost. I also like that we don't have a president as our head of state.

They generate more money than they cost so they aren't scrounging a thing. And voting UKIP in the last election doesn't automatically make someone hate foreigners. I love Europe, I've done a lot of travelling around Europe, I enjoy the rich history and variation in cultures within the continent. I think the EU is an absolute farce that started as a good idea and has been corrupt and abused and doesn't serve in our nations best interests.

Have you got any figures to back that up ?

Because the last reports I read were that they cost the Taxpayer £334m a year, in a combination of the Sovereign grant, security, council expenditures and loss of income to the treasury from the Duchies of Cornwall and Lancaster.

I live in Cornwall and like most local authorities Cornwall council is struggling to keep services provided for Libraries, local A&E services, Social care for elderly and disabled etc. Prince Charles personally took £19m out of the county for his own personal wealth, when that money could have been used locally.

Personally, I think the royals are the most blatant expression of an unequal society and they are little more than posh freeloaders. It's like Stockholm syndrome the way people suck up to the leeches. I'd much rather we had a PM and an elected head of state. At least that way we could get rid of them if we didn't like the way they were operating.

Depending on what you read, the Royal Family only bring in around £176m in revenue, so that's a huge shortfall between what they actually cost. Also you have to take into account the loss of revenue to the people who had their assets stripped and given to the royals over the generations. Things like land, buildings, businesses, resources etc. The Queen makes on average £39m per year personal income from holdings and investments. How did she acquire those assets in the first place ? Did she earn them ? Did she ****. They were handed to her on a plate from her ancestors who stole them from the common people.

They are paid as a % (I think it's set at 15% currently) of the income off the crown estate. If we got rid of them as our head of state they would assume full control of the crown estate (this was clarified in the House of Commons a couple of years ago). Legally we couldn't just asset strip the royals and we would end up out of pocket.

This of course doesn't take into account any effect on tourism etc as a result of the royals. The royal wedding for example giving a £2 billion boost to tourism and bringing in an additional 4million visitors.

They are given a Sovereign grant of £37m each year, but as stated this nowhere near accounts for the extra cost of keeping these scroungers, which last year amounted to £334m. I'm not sure how the Treasury would end up 'out of pocket' if they asset stripped the royals, I don't see any precedent around them assuming full control of the crown estate. If that happened then it should be state owned and income generated fed into the exchequer for the benefit of UK taxpayers.

Buck House currently 'needs' a £150m renovation, who do you think will pay for that ? Liz Saxburg-Gotha ? Like **** she will, it will be left to the taxpayer to foot the bill, when our public services are screaming out for extra investment just to keep them afloat. This is but one of the examples of 'hidden' costs of keeping these scroungers in their wealthy lifestyles at our expense.

As for the Royal Wedding, fine if people want to spend money gawking at them, I've no problem with that and the extra income is welcome. What I take issue with is us paying for it all. If these toffs want to swan about and live the lavish lifestyles they have, then they should pay for it themselves. In my opinion not 1p should be taken from taxpayers to lavish on one super rich family, especially when hospitals, schools and other essential public services are crumbling due to lack of investment.
