Just been on the Swans site, and i think espescially now we're in the Premiership,Cyril is in need of a makeover.he's allways been a scruffy sod and i suppose thats allways been part of his charm. But i think its time for a bit of grooming.New kit, plumage coiffure and a beak buff <ok>

Does anyone know if Cyril is still Ed, the old groundsman for the Vetch? I did work experience with those boys when I was in school... hell of an experience that was!

No, it was Eddie for a while after we came to the Liberty, but he wasn't groundsman any more so he couldn't work and do all the Cyril stuff as well. When he was the groundsman, the boss would be more likely to understand, but since they had other people doing that, it wasn't the case.

BTW, he's the groundsman at Llanelli now.

Fair play to him! Glad to see he's still making sure the grass is nice somewhere. One of my best memories is scoring a goal in the East Stand top right hand corner at the Vetch on a lunch break... good times!

I remember when Cyril go in trouble over a fracas with another mascot, was it the Millwall mascot? The quote in the paper..... "he's not a bad bird really" lmfao
Who was in Cyril when he won the mascot race at the horse race track some years ago?

It was the Millwall mascot (at least one incident was anyway!). They got into a bit of a scrap in front of the North Bank, Cyril removed Lenny the Lion's head and proceeded to volley it into the North Bank! Quality! You don't get that kind of thing at the footie any more...

Yeah you would need to do a risk assessment and health and safety before a mascot head is kicked into the crowd <laugh>

Scroll down to find a blog on Cyril! Haha. Good times, those. In fairness, for a while Cyril was the most entertaining aspect of following the Swans! Certainly more entertaining than the football we played under Hollins anyway. What was it again, 49 or 50 goals in 46 games, and we won the league...

Great read that, yeah we won the league averaging 1 goal per game !!!!

Mascot of Swansea City
Football Club

Birthplace:
A nest far, far away. Now living at Vetch Field, East Stand.

Career:
Local sporting celebrity and media personality.

Inspiration:
My fans. I arrived at Swansea City lost and trying to find my way back home. I saw the name Swansea and thought it must be where I was from. I landed on the North Bank roof and I was smitten. It may not be where I was from, but I was going to stay.

Big break:
I think the fans fell in love with me from the start, and have always been supportive. Mind you, I ruffled a few feathers at Norwich, especially those of Ryan Hamilton, the assistant manager of Norwich City. Life was never the same again. I’m not a bad bird - just enthusiastic!
I get lots of fan mail... and some not so nice mail from the FAW.

Highlight:
Apart from leading the cheering for the Swans, I’ve also appeared on the BBC National Lottery Draw from the Vetch Field. Also, I was on 'Night Fever', the karaoke show on Channel 5.

Low:
I ran on the pitch to celebrate scoring against Millwall in the FA Cup, and I was fined £1000. I know I’ve been in trouble with the authorities from time to time, but it was only a bit of fun. The boys and I had to work a lot of overtime to pay off the fine. They were dark days, but the club got behind me to pull me through.

Tips from the top:
Be original. Don’t copy - I’m not a naughty swan, my heart’s in the right place. Don’t mess with stuffed lions!

Excuse my ignorance But do premier clubs have mascotts on match days. Just feel cyril is a bit old hat now. Maybe it is time to move him just to activities in schools and fetes.

Many a current Swan fan was swooned by the legend that is Cyril . Lets face it....in the late 90's/ turn of the millenium, he was not just good for the youngsters but sometimes better than the football being played. We cannot forget where we came from as it can take just as quick to go back down the leagues!
If he needs revamping, it's only as my learned friend said...... he needs to hold his head up high!
