I see all the babies and toddlers and despair at the morons who conceive children amidst such war and terror. 'But it's their human rights,' the belly-ticklers say. 'Like the starving Africans who cannot use contraception.' Bollocks to that. I say take the kids away to safety but send the 'parents' back.
Looks like they're doing something against ISIL: http://www.independent.co.uk/news/u...es-legal-basis-for-drone-attack-10490927.html But then they get slammed by Amnesty International and MPs: It seems like the country is not in agreement of what should be done, and it's relatively worrying. If we do nothing, we'll be blasted, and if we do something, we'll be blasted.
The likes of Amnesty International and Diane Abbot can go **** themselves with regards to this situation. The fact is the (silent) majority rejoice in seeing terrorists blown to smithereens, and the same (silent) majority do not want thousands of unidentified refugees entering this country. The hand-wringers will defend any old cause, even if it's to the obvious detriment of the masses.
I've had to stop wringing my hands in order to type this. The use of drones in Afghanistan by the Yanks killed many innocent civilians, and caused widespread terror. This instance may have been successful, but if we go down that road I expect it to be counterproductive in the long run.
But we aren't the Yanks and the operation was an outright success. These events can only be judged as they happen, but I trust the RAF to make the right call. Don't make your hands sore, FHB.
Like kish - I wish I knew more to comment. I did see something today though about a comment ISIS made months back about sending X amount of people over and we wouldn't even know it. It was a chilling comment then, and perhaps scarier now. But by my own admission again, I'm not very clued up on this entire situation, though am familiar more so with propaganda. I too think it could have been handled better than it has been - from Cameron and Germany/Austria/Hungary.
I'm more recent events, appears that Russia has moved a force into Syria and is building an Air Force base. This is one of the few English articles on it: http://www.dw.com/en/nato-concerned-over-possible-russian-military-buildup-in-syria/a-18702265 It's no secret that Putin is a strong ally of Bashar al-Assad, and is looking to back him militarily to push back ISIL and take back ground they've accumulated. Although it seems that NATO, EU and U.S., are "expressing concern" over this, with Blugaria denying airspace to Russian planes bounded for Syria, I bet this world leaders are secretly hoping that the Russians smash the crap out of ISIL
Is anyone else enjoying the bitter irony that Czech Republic, Poland & Slovakia are unwilling to take a quota of refugees. They are all worried about the effects that immigration could have on their countries. There must be plenty of room now in all 3 of their homelands - most of their citizens live in the UK.
The U.K. has an Opt-Out, so we don't have to take the 20,000 as proposed by the EU (and are NOT subjected to the fines that would be imposed by not meeting them). But we're apparently going to fulfill some obligation by taking refugees from the camps in Lebanon, Turkey and directly from Syria after an extensive vetting process. Slovakia, Czech, etc., only have to accept 1,500 allowing the rest to pass to Germany, France which have agreed to take 80,000 among them both (53,000 at least going to Germany) Did you hear that Denmark have put ads in newspapers abroad, telling refugee not to come to Denmark. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/w...th-newspaper-adverts-in-lebanon-10490666.html It seems that Junkers plans are not very popular...
I spent an evening with a Danish couple recently. The country has a long left-of -centre tradition, but has recently swung sharply to the right. The reason? Immigration.
Spent a lot of time in DK the last year for work, I don't remember coming across anyone but Danes! Other than a certain Williams sister and her clan in Herning. A starstruck moment indeed.
I'm a Celt and I'd like the rest of you to **** off. Now. You lot have ruined this green and tranquil land with your Margaret Thatchers and your ignorance. Thatcher destroyed this country; all of our woes stem from Thatcherism and monetarism. Her politics and economics killed the working class mentally and physically; the remnants have been broken and lost that traditional socialist ideal of community, fairness and aspiration mixed with a healthy amount of conservatism (in terms of traditional values as opposed to ideology). This has led to a loss of self-respect and, fed by the right wing media, a total ignorance to everything that really matters as we're distracted by sideshows such as health and safety legislation or political correctness, and to an extent the myth of 'mass immigration' and its perputed affect on infrastructure. What's more likely to destroy the NHS; privitisation or 'health tourism'? The myth of 'mass immigration' sold to the man on the street is likely solely so as to influence the EU vote whenever that will be, whilst the right wing medias sudden support last week of asylum seekers most likely the first stages of some jingoistic attempt to get a war against IS started (something which I actually see as the only solution). As I said earlier in this thread, I've not really any clue on what's happened in Syria (this post isn't really about that); but I know what's happened here and frankly it's a shambolic embarrassment. But at least the Queen looked lovely today.
They were explaining to me how the education system has changed, and now primary school kids are flooded with tests, just as has happened here. I was surprised since the Scandinavian countries have had a less pressurised approach for a long time, which has been shown to be a more effective way of educating children in the long term. They explained that the whole political spectrum has moved to the right now, and education is just one aspect of that change. They put it down to immigration, but since I haven't been there I don't know whether it's immigration or a fear of immigration.
Sod the queen. We need another bank holiday. I propose the follow: 1. 25th April (Cromwell's Birthday) 2. 30th January (Execution of Charles I) 3. 3rd September (Winning Civil War)
btw, if the British Government are going to use drones to 'take out' british subjects then surely somebody knows who thought up 'Strictly Come Dancing' and a drone could be used to take him/her out? Now that would be a good use of taxpayers money.
