I'm firmly in the God save the Queen brigade. Lovely Lady and puts to shame some of our younger Royals, when she passes we should elbow Charles to one side and get William into the top job.

I agree, but is it constitutionally possible to bypass Charles though?

No, it isn't. Charles would have to serve as King.

Why? We don't have a written constitution, just Common Law, Parliament just needs to pass a Bill banning him from suceeding. After all we've forced monarchs to abdicate, lost a few in battle and chopped the bonce off one. We can do anything we like.

Possibly, but they wouldn't contribute to the massive income that she and her ilk generate in tourism, which far outweighs what she is granted from the public purse. A fact conveniently forgotten by some.

Is that ALL the homeless, or just the indigenous homeless? Are you a nationalist and a socialist BBH?

    seems cheap enough

What a bargain! How the Royal Family costs you just 56p a year
THE Queen is to get an inflation-busting “pay rise” of five per cent, taking her annual income above £40million.

Worth every penny of the 56p each of her subjects pay [PH]
The £2million increase comes as a result of record profits at the Crown Estate which were up thanks to overseas interest in its central London properties and investment in wind farms. Its £9.4billion property portfolio includes the entire UK seabed and Regent Street in London’s West End.
The monarchy last year cost taxpayers £35.7million – just 56p each for all her subjects.
Joe Little, editor of Majesty magazine, said: “The monarchy is exceptionally good value at 56p per person. We are looking at money for the Royal Family performing all their official duties. I know some people won’t agree but I think it is still represents an excellent use of public money.”
The Queen’s income from the taxpayer will rise because of a deal linking the Royal Household’s Sovereign Grant from the Government to 15 per cent of the profits of the Crown Estate property portfolio.
The Crown Estate, which is nominally owned by the monarch but hands all its profits to the Treasury, made record profits of £267.1million in the year to March – an increase of almost six per cent.
It is the third year running that the 88-year-old Queen has enjoyed a big increase in funding thanks to the Crown Estate.
Under a deal introduced by Chancellor George Osborne in 2012, the first payout started at £31million, rose to £36million last year and will be £38million next year. The £40million Sovereign Grant will be paid in 2016.
According to detailed annual accounts published by Buckingham Palace today the Queen’s spending increased by £2.4million last year.
She used much of her money to cover staff wages, utility bills, laundry and the cost of official functions – including a £1.3million food tab.
But she also had to foot a £13.3million bill for the upkeep of her crumbling royal homes, including £3.4million to refurbish Kensington Palace ready for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge to move in with Prince George. The total renovation bill for the 20-room apartment stands at £4.5million.
Sir Alan Reid, keeper of the Privy Purse, said public funding of the monarchy had fallen by eight per cent in real terms in the past two years.

As I hinted in my earlier post, the 'Royals' bring in a bloody fortune in terms of tourism. £267.1 million from the Crown Estate alone. One wonders then, how much more is spent by these tourists that fill the coffers of UK PLC.
