If LVG sticks to his word he will finish at the club at the end of his contract in May 2017 - in just 20 months time. So who might follow him ...... Well written piece in the Telegraph..... http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/fo...d-imagine-David-Beckham-as-his-assistant.html
It's a grand idea in principle. Giggs manager, Beckham next to him and the likes of Neville, Scholes and Butt there as coaches. It would make United more, well MUFC than the massive repulsive sponsor led business that they now are. Great idea, let's face it the football can hardly be any worse than the pedestrian ****e we are currently fed. (I know, I know, it's ALL about the results. All of it, the performance does not matter)
It would all be a bit to Roy of The Rovers, great idea to have all these iconic players who love the club in place like that but in reality would it work? I'd like to think so.
The others are at the club anyway, G Neville aside but he'd be back in a flash I reckon. Beckham would need to get his head around being an assistant football manager and ditch the rest of what goes on in his life. **** sake, surely he's bored of it by now anyway? It's not like people can trip out the old cliché of him 'being out of the game too long', he knows his onions and keeps an eye on what's happening clearly. I personally would love this to happen, for reason I mentioned before and Stan agreed with. Makes us a football club again, it's boot room and Roy of the Rovers stuff but would be brilliant. Giggs is there for a reason right now so the seeds are being sown. It does depend on van Gaal seeing out his term, if he were to leave during this season for instance it would be too soon for Giggs and co.
Yeah, nothing says "we're not driven by sponsorship" than bringing in Brand Beckham as assistant manager. **** all managerial or coaching experience, don't even think he has taken a single coaching badge, and hard to see what he would offer other than drumming up publicity and getting us Calvin Klein as our underwear sponsor. I agree with Giggs as manager, but with Neville or Scholes as assistant, or possibly Ole, as Beckham has done nothing, imo, to deserve anything other than to start from the bottom as a coach or youth coach and try to work his way up. Appointing Beckham would be like Newcastle appointing Shearer, or Liverpool going for Graeme Souness and Roy Evans. I appreciate his connection to the club and the dedication he would bring, but we also need someone who has at least some coaching experience at that high a position.
Beckham's dedication to the club? He couldn't wait to **** off and become a "Galactico"! Giggs, Gary Nev, Scholes, Butt.
Dedication to the role. He would give it his all, for the 16 hours a week he could squeeze into the club whilst jetting off around the world to do fashion shoots and other ****.
I see Giggs sitting in the dugout and he often cuts a frustrated figure - it's as if he wants to get to the technical area and shout and scream to move play along - but that's not LVG's style and Giggs is there to watch and learn. With Giggs in charge and with Ole and the class of '92 on the coaching staff I doubt it would be too long before we get back to our fluid, attacking style of play. The only effective role for Beckham would be as a global commercial ambassador - a role he would be ideally suited for, working alongside Woodward to drain the wallets of our sponsors. All in all - I'd be happy to see it happen as I can see Pep going to £££££ and that leaves Klopp.
Well, that's how the story goes. I've never had an issue with Beckham as I know he worked his absolute bollocks off when he was a United player to the point he raised himself to a level which was beyond his actual talent. I don't believe he wanted to leave either, he did have to though as he'd become a sideshow. I like the bloke, a lot. For it to ever happen he'd have to turn to coaching but as this isn't supposed to happen for another season and a half it's not completely beyond question.
Combination of the two imo. Beckham worked his socks off at the club, and was completely committed to his training and playing. But he did get his head turned by the celebrity aspect, and particularly his missus. I remember him getting permission to skip training a few times to watch his kids when she wasn't available because she was off doing some promo or other. No problem with a player putting their family first when there is a genuine need, but not because their wife would rather be off on some jolly. Regardless of his level of commitment, he still lacks the experience needed to take over as our assistant imo. Giggsy took his badges in 2009 and was player coach for a year before becoming assistant, Beckham needs to prove himself in the same way before we hand him an important role.
I don't think Beckham would be interested in being an assistant coach. It's not glamorous enough. Owning a franchise club in the MLS has got Becks written all over it.
