The Under-21s are back in action this evening when they travel to Portman Road to face Ipswich Town.

Tony Pennock’s side head into the game looking to maintain their impressive start to the 2015/16 U21 Professional Development League 2 campaign which sees them unbeaten after four games and chasing a fourth successive league win following victories over Watford, Huddersfield Town and Barnsley.

Ipswich, meanwhile, are looking to bounce back from a 3-0 defeat away at Millwall in their last league outing. The Tractor Boys are currently sixth in the U21 Professional Development League 2 South table after winning two and losing two of their opening four fixtures of the new season.

Tickets will be available on the turnstiles at Portman Road with admission for the game priced as follows: £3 Adults and £1 Concessions.

    Pennock: U21s Feeling The Benefit

Tony Pennock believes the Under-21s are already feeling the benefit of a more regular fixture list in the U21 Professional Development League 2.

Tonight’s trip to Ipswich Town sees the Tigers’ Development Squad involved in their fifth game of the new season already, whereas, at this time last year, they were yet to even start their Final Third Development League campaign.

“It’s massive,” said Pennock of the regular games programme at Category Two level. “You only have to ask the boys themselves what a difference it makes.

“Last year wasn’t quite as bad as the season before (2013/14) from what I understand but to only have 14 league fixtures last year wasn’t anywhere enough.

“Of course, we arranged friendlies but there is always a different approach and mentality to a friendly match compared to a game where there’s three points up for grabs.

“The lads need to learn that three points mean something at every level of the game, but they have adapted really well to this league.

“It’s a new challenge and new opportunity for them every single week but the team is playing in a way that we’re asking them to and managing to produce positive performances whilst doing so - long may that continue.”

The Under-21s have made an impressive start to the season having gone four games unbeaten - including three consecutive wins against Watford, Huddersfield and Barnsley - a run they will look to continue at Portman Road this evening.

“It will be great for the lads to experience playing at a stadium like Portman Road,” he added.

“We went to Barnsley last week and played at their training ground in what was an entertaining and very good game of football.

“However, playing at a stadium always enhances the experience for the lads. You never know what sort of side the opposition is going to put out at this level, especially with us currently being in an international break.

“They may choose to include some first-teamers that are perhaps coming back from injury. Whatever side they put out though, it will be a tough game for the lads.

“It’s another opportunity for them to play against a good club that has had a top Academy for a long, long time now.

“And to get the chance to play on Ipswich’s first-team pitch is another benefit and something that they will only benefit from.

“The lads have been their usual focused selves in training in the build-up to tonight’s game and are ready and raring to go.”

Was Luer's goal the penalty? As on the twitter feed it said Luer has scored making it 1-1, then a minute later said Penalty to City, so either Leur scored the penalty or we missed it.

This is the Ipswich match report and teams.

    Ten-Man U21s Lose to Hull
Monday, 7th Sep 2015 21:57 by James Ager
A stoppage time goal saw Town's U21 side fall to a 2-1 defeat at home to Hull City on Monday evening. Larsen Touré put the Blues ahead in the first half but a penalty from Greg Luer and Jarrod Bowen's late strike, either side of Josh Yorwerth's red card, gave the visitors the win.

Touré, Jonny Parr, Piotr Malarczyk and recently signed striker James Alabi all started for Town, alongside first-year scholar Andre Dozzell who spent last week with the England U17s.

The first chance of the game fell to Parr following Myles Kenlock's low cross from the left, but the Norwegian's effort was blocked.

Yorwerth did well to dispossess Luer on the edge of the box after some good build-up play involving Johan Ter Horst, shortly before Touré opened the scoring on the half hour.

Kundai Benyu provided a fine corner from the left side and Touré powered an unchallenged header past keeper Rory Watson from six yards out.

The Guinean international nearly turned provider seven minutes later when his curling cross came within inches of finding Shane McLoughlin, but the Irish U18 international couldn't quite stretch far enough to make contact with the ball.

The impressive Alabi caused the visitors defence further problems moments before the interval when a typically bustling run led to the ball finding Benyu on the right. His dangerous cross was diverted over the bar by Will Aimson, and Benyu's corner was then headed inches wide by Yorwerth.

Hull started the second period well and Conor Townsend stung Michael Crowe's palms with a fierce freekick struck from the edge of the Town box.

Matthew Dixon curled an effort narrowly over Crowe's bar as the hour mark approached, while at the other end Alabi nearly capitalised on a defensive lapse but his looping effort dropped wide of Watson's post.

The Yorkshire side got back on level terms with six minutes remaining. Sub Ben Hinchcliffe's cross was met by Bowen at the back post and his goalbound shot was instinctively blocked by the arm of Yorwerth, who was subsequently dismissed. Luer sent Crowe the wrong way with a good penalty into the bottom left-hand corner.

Despite Mark Kennedy reinforcing his depleted backline, the visitors scored a winner in stoppage time when Ter Horst's cross from the left was exquisitely volleyed home by Bowen from 12 yards.

A draw would probably have been a fair result with the Blues on top during the first half, and Hull having the better of the second period.

Kenlock impressed at left-back and until his red card Yorwerth had been having a solid game at centre-half alongside the comfortable Malarczyk.

Parr will have been pleased to get 90 minutes in, while Alabi's strength and desire up front will surely have impressed the watching Mick McCarthy and Terry Connor.

U21s: Crowe, Parr, Kenlock, Dozzell, Malarczyk, Yorwerth, Toure (Ford 77), Benyu, Alabi, McLoughlin (Ramadan 55 (Robinson 86)), Henshall. Unused: Wright, Maynard.

Hull: Watson, Clackstone, Townsend, Dixon, Aimson, Clappison, Annan (Hinchcliffe 58), Clark, Luer, Ter Horst, Bowen. Unused: Saltmer, Olley, Rodgers, Barkworth.

Either the reporter is confused or the ref took a hell of a long time to find his cards.

I just hope that some of these lads get ongoing first team opportunities this season, they're doing superbly well so far.

U21s Report: Ipswich Town 1 Hull City 2

A late Greg Luer penalty and a stoppage time goal from Jarrod Bowen saw the Uner-21s come from behind to claim a 2-1 win against Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Monday night.

Larsen Toure opened the scoring for the hosts on 31 minutes, heading home from a Kundai Benyu corner, to give his side a one-goal lead at the break. Ipswich were reduced to ten men with six minutes remaining when skipper Josh Yorwerth saw red for deliberately beating Jarrod Bowen’s goalbound effort off the line with his hand and Greg Luer tucked away the resulting penalty to level the scores. And the Tigers claimed all three points deep into stoppage time when Conor Townsend’s cross was volleyed home by Bowen.

With Brian Lenihan away on international duty with the Republic of Ireland Under 21 squad, Tony Pennock was forced into making one change to the side that won 3-0 at Barnsley six days earlier. Josh Clackstone came in at right back with Ellis Barkworth replacing him on the bench.

The Tigers had an early chance when Will Annan met Conor Townsend’s cross from the left but his header was easily held by Town keeper Michael Crowe.

Ipswich’s first chance fell to Jonathan Parr but Will Aimson produced a good block to deny the Town full back.

There were few goalscoring opportunities until the hosts took a 31st-minute lead. Alex Henshall’s free-kick was deflected for a corner and from Kundai Benyu’s flag kick, Toure planted a header past Rory Watson.

Max Clark forced Crowe into a low save but Ipswich could have doubled their lead on the stroke of half time. Again it was a Benyu corner that caused problems for City and Town skipper Joshua Yorwerth headed narrowly wide.

The Tigers had the first chance of the second period when they were awarded a free-kick just outside the box in the first minute after the restart. Townsend’s left foot shot was well struck but was straight at Crowe who made the save.

A Luer pass then found Matty Dixon but the Tigers’ skipper’s curling effort from outside the box cleared the crossbar by inches.

City then had an escape when James Alabi intercepted a headed back pass and lifted the ball over Watson only for it to drift wide.

Bowen drilled a left foot shot wide from the edge of the box and it didn’t look as though it was going to be City’s night when Townsend did well on the left and pulled the ball back for Bowen but he couldn’t make a decent contact and Crowe pounced on the ball.

However, the Tigers did eventually level when they were awarded a penalty in with just six minutes remaining. Substitute Ben Hinchliffe crossed from the left and Bowen’s goal-bound shot was handled by Yorwerth. The referee pointed to the spot and also produced a red card for the Town defender and Luer drilled his spot-kick low past Crowe.

City were not content to settle for a draw and grabbed the winner in stoppage time. Dixon’s pass released Townsend down the left and he pulled the ball back for Bowen to volley into the net and secure a fourth successive win for the young Tigers.

Hull City: Rory Watson, Josh Clackstone, Conor Townsend, Matty Dixon, Will Aimson, Ben Clappison, Will Annan (Ben Hinchliffe 58), Max Clark, Greg Luer, Johan Ter Horst, Jarrod Bowen.
Subs Not Used: Jonathan Saltmer, Greg Olley, Harvey Rodgers, Ellis Barkworth.

Ipswich Town: Michael Crowe, Jonathan Parr, Myles George Kenlock, Andre Dozzell, Piotr Malarczyk, Joshua Yorwerth, Larsen Toure (Sam Ford 77), Kundai Benyu, James Alabi, Shane McLoughin (Cemal Ramadan 55, Joe Robinson 85), Alex Henshall.
Subs Not Used: Harry Wright, Isaac Maynard.
