The director said that Ewan McGregor, Robert Carlyle, Jonny Lee Miller and Ewen Bremner are all on board for the project which has been in the pipeline for years. McGregor has previously confirmed that he would like to return as his character Renton, and said it would make sense to produce a sequel to mark the original's 20th anniversary in 2016. In March 2013 Boyle confirmed that Trainspotting's screenwriter John Hodge was working on the script. Speaking after a screening of his Steve Jobs biopic in Telluride, Boyle told Deadline: "All the four main actors want to come back and do it. "Now it is only a matter of getting all their schedules together which is complicated by two of them doing American TV series." Miller plays Sherlock Holmes in Elementary and Carlyle is a regular on Once Upon A Time. Boyle described Hodge's script for Trainspotting 2, which is based on Irvine Welsh book Porno, as "terrific". It has not been confirmed what the title will be. Trainspotting, based on Welsh's novel of the same name, follows a group of heroin addicts in a late 1980s economically depressed area of Edinburgh. Not sure whether I love this or am really scared. Trainspotting is one of my favourite films, but I'm concerned it will suffer the usual thing sequels do. Saying that, Danny Boyle is an awesome director, and I see his Steve Jobs biopic is getting rave reviews.
True. The best thing about this is the fact Boyle is the one continuing it. Even though Slumdog Millionaire seems to get all the plaudits, Trainspotting is his real masterpiece, he himself would do his utmost to make sure it is worthy of the original. One thing I truly hope for is a soundtrack like the first film. That is easily one my fave movie soundtracks ever (alongside Pulp Fiction and Dazed and Confused).
Now you've mentioned the Steve Jobs film, saw on the news at the weekend that Apple had been asked to help or contribute to the making of the film, but said they couldn't as they didn't have the resources .
Well if they did contribute, they certainly didn't mind painting Jobs in a bad light, as he supposedly comes off as quite unlikeable in the film.
So its realistic then. Good. Have to admit, wasn't a huge fan of Slumdog but generally I love Boyle's stuff, and yes, Trainspotting, and it's soundtrack, are right up there for me. Born Slippy. Yeah boi.
Trainspotting is an absolute beast of a film. Epic soundtrack and playing Renton was quite probably the making of McGregor (Ewan not Allan). I'm worried the second film will kill the quality of the first. Sometimes things are better just left alone.
To be fair, Irvine Welsh did write a sequel to Trainspotting, called Porno. Whether the film would be along the same lines I have no idea though.
Trainspotting is the central book of a trilogy by Irvine Welsh, all modern classics, shame T2 can't be a prelude as Skagboys is the best book, it'll be Porno but has the potential for new characters as Welsh has included the Trainspotting cast in other spin offs.Good news, best thing City's keepers kid brother Ewan ever did.
Never got into Trainspotting when it first came out, but it's so long since I've seen it, it might be worth a rewatch. I have always preferred Shallow Grave.
I've read Porno but for the life of me I can't remember the story at all!?! I might have to revisit some Irvine Welsh books. Some of his short stories are good too I seem to remember The Acid House was a good collection. I saw movie of Filth not that long ago but didn't think it was anywhere near as good as the book.
I think I saw Trainspotting and Shallow Grave at the cinema when they were out, will hold fire till I see the sequel of Trainspotting as I never read Porno but usually don't like sequels to great films, this one could be alright maybe
"Born Slippy" either I dreamt it or it used to be part of the pre match soundtrack in the early years at the kc. I remember the first time I saw Trainspotting in the states, the entire film had been sub-titled for the benefit of Americans struggling with the jock accent. Great film!

I re-read the full Trainspotting Trilogy again last year (Skagboys / Trainspotting / Porno). If the storyline sticks to the Porno theme (but with the money making scheme updated for the internet age) it should be really bloody good.
