Shelter is one of two charities that I donate to monthly and agree with what you say. Not to ignore what's happening with Syria, but we should do hell of a lot more as a country to protect our homeless. Let's not even get started on the elderly <ok>

Cameron is probably ****ting himself because in 2 years time when he is asked what has happened to the £12bn they made in welfare cuts and he tells how it was all spent on the immigration crisis, there will be a lot of unhappy citizens. Even more so when thousands of British school children cannot get into their preferred schools as all schools are told to put aside 10% of the spaces for non-British kids.

So what was the father of the drowned boys fleeing? He has gone back to Kobane to bury them. It can't be the fear of conflict or he certainly wouldn't go back.

It reminds me somewhat about the Somalian who killed the policewoman in Yorkshire a few years ago. We couldn't deport him prior to that act because it was deemed to be too dangerous a place yet after the murder he donned a burka and fled back there.

These people are trying to pull the wool over our eyes and sadly it's working with the powers that be.

Just as an aside I see that Sky News are splashing the number of people who have signed the online petion calling for us to take more 'refugees' (aka scroungers and ISIS troops) but no mention whatsoever about the opposing petition calling for a complete block on taking anymore refuges.

Cameron says we have given £1 billion in aid to Syria, that's come out of the £12 billion in welfare cuts. We should look after our own first.

I don't really understand what's happening so won't comment properly.

But what annoys me the most is everyone on social media proclaiming Refugees Welcome.

The very same people who spit on the homeless, blame Gazza for being an alcoholic and vote for the Conservatives. The same people who agreed with Nigel Farage and blame the state of the NHS on immigration.

    I abhor the pretence.

The fact that that's what annoys me the most is vain and that annoys me too.

The homeless don't usually get a lot of sympathy. Very near to where I live there is a council proposal to use an old building as a refuge for the homeless. The locals are up in arms about it, and almost every house in that street has a placard in their window "Stop the Manorfields Project". I assume they are concerned about the value of their property.

I was going to ignore this post, but it wound me up. There is a photo of Kobani (Kobane) as it is now the fighting is finished. It's a bit like Hiroshima after the bomb hit it, and apart from burials, there's not much else to be done with it. Are you seriously suggesting he should go back and live there? The comparison with the Somali touches on the offensive, as like it or not, you are comparing a bereaved father with a murderer. And who is 'pulling the wool over our eyes'? The Syrian refugees? They are fleeing the situation of being caught between the hell of the current Asaad Syrian regime and the opportunity to be decapitated or burned alive by the ISIS murderers, Is there a part of that you find confusing?
I agree (though in this case it hurts) with you that we should look after our own, and it should'nt need a war in another country to bring this home, but are we so bereft of charity that we can't help others? I reckon Sky did'nt want to show the other petition because of embarrassment.

Not true in the case of the unfortunate little boy - they were in the holiday resort of Bodrum FFS - they were safe. The sister in law (living in Canada) had given them $4000 to live on - they then chose to spend it on trying to get to the EU illegally.
The boys mother wanted to stay and live in Turkey but the boys father made them go on the dinghy.

I was answering this bit. The suggestion seemed to be he could have stayed in Kobane if he wanted too. I did'nt know about the Turkey part, but whether he would have been welcome in Turkey (I believe he's a Kurd, and the Turkish government are bombing them) is an open question.

This is nothing compared to the mass migrations which will take place some time in the future when global warming hits home and sea levels rise. Or maybe the scientists are wrong, but hey-ho I'll be gone by then.

The Germans have played a blinder. Lest them all in. But you cant claim benefits for two years if you enter Germany.... So all these migrants get an EU passport.

I wonder which country is forced to allow any EU passport holder in AND still lets them claim benefits from day one........ Oh wait a minute

Will the refugees go home once Syria is at peace?
Did the Ugandan Asians go back? The Kosovars? The Tunisians?
It is an unsustainable situation. Our country has done enough over the years and we have no reason to feel guilt.
The Syrian men should go back and fight for their homeland. Where is their pride as they hitch a lift on the Western gravy-train?
How do we know the true intentions of each and every one of the refugees?
Why do they refuse to give their details, their fingerprints, their papers?
Why are Hungary, Macedonia and Serbia not good enough for those fleeing the threat of persecution, rape and death?
Sympathy for a man who sends his family to a watery grave is misguided and wholly unwarranted. He and his kin were safe in Turkey, but he wanted more.
Why are the do-gooders not offering rooms to our homeless folk?
How can we spend more billions on aid when we are cutting funding for cancer treatments, special-needs schools, disability therapies, the policing budget, and so many more vital services and provisions?
How will our already exhausted NHS cope with a new influx?
Do the councils have properties for these refugees? Will the refugees jump to the top of the housing list?
Can the welfare budget cope with the strain at a time when the most vulnerable are already losing out?

No one wants to see children suffer. No one should suffer persecution and the fear of death. But Britain has done enough already.

the refugees wont go home after. the government are so short sighted. this month it'll be syrians coming, next month when ISIS take land from iraq et al, it'll be them coming.

they're not solving the root problem - ISIS. I dont understand why they havent nuked them yet. This solves everything, they're not human, they dont deserve compassion. with all the allied armies, superior backing and superior numbers i dont understand why they havent dealt with them yet.

get rid of them and no one needs to leave their own country.

Wonder why the TV are not reporting what’s really going on:

You seen them fighting each other in the camps? Syrians & Afghans going toe to toe?

The fella in the Hungarian train Station doing the slit the throat sign?

They trashed buses that transported them around?

The men on the train throwing away food and water given to them by soldiers and the ones by the road side refusing charity as it was from Christian aid?

Why are they leaving the women & children behind?

The young Turk kid, the father should be done for manslaughter been in Turkey 3 years had a home and a job!!!

IS already saying they have people in with this lot?

Why are the rich Islamic countries not taking any in, yes rich ones I don’t mean Turkey or Iraq?

Our cities are looking more and more like shanty towns and it will only get worse.

20,000 to be taken in from Syria.
Utter madness from our spineless 'leader'.
How many prefabs will Cameron, Clegg and Blair have built within the grounds of their estates?
Will Bob Geldof donate the royalties from his ONE decent song to the costs of health, education, housing, food and transport?
How many new 'British' babies will be born during the next nine months? And who will provide for the offspring?
Will our overstretched, underfunded Police and Border Forces be able to cope with the rise in organised crime?

So many questions to be answered. So few with the bollocks to ask them.

You're being far too generous there!! He had no good song. Geldof needs charity more than any charity needs him.

Rat Trap is his one good song, yeah?

I personally believe Bob is hoping to surround himself with more of other people's tragedy so that he can pen a sequel to I Don't Like Mondays.

    Worry,
    Worry about all the people,
Worry about the scars it'll leave on this earth,
    Worry we'll turn our back,
    Worry we'll do too much...
Damn worrying, it's keeping me awake.
Worrying so much, I can't jerk off!

**Thought I'd get poetic about it!

Imteresting feature by Robert Peston on 5live about how the influx of Syrians will benefit Germany due to their ageing population and low birthrate.
I went to a lecture on Syria 30 years ago when I visited Israel. The situation then was so complicated that my head was spinning long before the end.
