http://www.southlondonpress.co.uk/a...hief: We are exceeding our player wage budget Thoughts on this? 1) it stinks we are forced to pay some of the network flops wages. RD owns Alcoron, so why are we still picking that up? 2) High earners like Wiggins and TBH have moved on. You'd think that would near enough subsidize cousins and JBG (though can't deny there is probably some increase on that). 3) Gomez money?
"They were not helped by the fact that they were forced to pay up Andre Bikey’s contract". A) Forced to pay up Bikey's contract... really...? B) Why do so if we're short on CB's (as she said later in the piece)...? Doesn't make sense to me.
why are we in talks with pope and fox if we're over budget. they're both on contracts already. whatever the reason, i'm glad we'll sign these two up. i have the feeling pope will become our number one this year.
I'm not sure what "over budget" means these days. A lot of firms set arbitrary figures for departments, or for projects and whether or not it's realistic, and often it's not, that is the budget. It does seem ironic that Katrien lists the flops we've brought in, whose wages we are still paying even though they are no longer here, then goes on to say that the scouts really know what they'rs doing. She probably regards the Gomez money as something completely seperate from the wage budget.
So missing only two targets excluded the B'mouth 3? . Interesting there was no mention of an increase or decrease in budget. Now whilst I wouldn't have expected here to say it outright, she didn't really touch on the fact that we might have spent drastically more. The Gomez money (£3.5mil) looks to have gone on Bauer, kashi, sarr and bik mak. Contract extensions brought on by releases (the squad has dropped in size to accommodate this). This suggests to me there may have been a drop in budget from RD. 'Some' sensible decisions, some penny pinching.
I thought we would be the team that are the most on budget of the League if you ask me. Especially when you compare it to the other sides and their spending.
Did anyone else watch the southend - p'boro game yesterday? Both seem to have made strides in the market and actually made for a good game. A few ex Charlton targets on display too. Shows how the leagues are improving from the bottom up.
Watched Cambridge v Luton. Good football played. No kick and rush. Mackail-Smith was a class above and still very quick despite being a little roly-poly these days. Could still play in our division.
So what we're expecting is a sale of players in January? See that former Standard Liege got spanked 7 - 1 by Club Brugge and are sitting in a respectable 11. Many are saying it was the constraints put on the club by Doucébag. Could that be us in a few years?
I went to Gills/Donny at the weekend- considering the Gills went top I thought the standard between Championship and League 1 football was vast- lot of long aimless long balls for the Gills, one player I wouldn't mind taking was Dack- is is right we let him go early on his career???
Can't say it's a name I've ever heard of - how old is he? FHB, AH and DP might be able to tell you more on that front. I guess with the Gills going top playing long ball it shows you whats effective in that division. Southend and P'boro haven't had great starts, but it really was a decent game of football played by two teams trying to keep it on the deck. Jack Collison vs Wordsworth in the second half was a good battle.
Reading the interview with Meire reminded me of the old joke... How can you tell when Katrien Meire is lying? Her lips move No mention of the £4.25m income from the Gomez and Wiggins sales. As for Fox and Pope getting handsome new contracts.....less to do with RDs altruism, more to do with the next Poyet/ Gomez being lined up for next summer. I say it again, Duchatelet and Meire stink worse than a week old kipper in a sock, and Welsh born Cardiff fans who bend over for them are cretins.
