I get that, but surely you'd want to go down there and do his dentist a favour and knock a few Hampsteads out of his North?

I think it is simple to castigate him, but life does have it's shades. I haven't gone into the detail of his admission (he isn't a stupid man, I don't think, so his honesty is intriguing and I will look into it, although I have a vague memory from that time), but I know from experience that life can put everyone and anyone into circumstances that are not straightforward.

I had to get involved in a father on son rape in the army - it was horrendous on every possible level - the anger of the wife was something else - her maternal anger and assault something that took out out-of-depth resources by surprise. (I might have discussed this, in limited fashion some time ago)

I have seen wives attacking husbands with knives, fists, bedside lamps, you name it; their fury was a real physical handful (probably justified to some extent, but is drink or adultery a reason for attempted murder, and at least one actual murder?) - what would you do, tell her 'don't be daft, Pet'?).

I've seen big. physical women attack blokes, no drink involved, just anger, jealousy or simply that they are the ones who are bad; should the blokes defend themselves? Men will often hide these attacks, the ones that don't progress beyond the legal, but I do know, from life experiences (fortunately not my own family), that sometimes women do need a short sharp slap to stop their assault - if the bloke is lucky enough to be able to do it - some aren't. I have had to intervene and it really is not good - it's different from a last orders barney.

Just over a year ago I was at a charity fund raising event in the midlands, a full Saturday and Sunday, ' It's a Knockout' type of thing - really good fun. On the night everyone was having a cracking time, it was late, it was hot so we spent time outside with the smokers. We shared the hotel with a wedding party and a good looking lass, from that party, laid it onto my mate (younger than me - a decent larker) but her price was he gave her husband a good hiding because (she was pissed) she 'couldn't ****ing stand him'. We/he moved her on; 2hrs later they were luvvy duvvy!

No. Tuckin. behind closed doors is not okay, but it isn't always as black and white as it might appear; sometimes it starts outside and the anger comes out indoors, - not always the blokes making. Some couples actually get a perverse buzz from it - I prefer a comedy and a brandy coffee myself. I see the noble principle of your post time and again ( I am not being critical), but I am rather cynical about it. At the end of the day no one should need to hit anyone; whether we can or not. <ok>
