Deandre Yedlin played RM in a 4-4-2. His pace down the wing was very much in evidence in the build up to Altidore's second goal. It was almost like he was auditioning for you guys. If you watch, you'll see effective crosses, wicked cutbacks, even a nutmeg. Defensively, he pressured well, he had some interceptions, a long clearance, looked like a second RB when USA parked the bus for awhile in the first half. He even showed his hops as he contested for a ball in the air against a much taller lad. The stark contrast between his and Altidore's athleticism was conspicuous. I'm thinking this is going work out well for everyone! I'm very much looking forward to the rest of the season. If Pochettino had brought Yedlin in, instead of Lamela, against Stoke; Spurs would have taken all three.
This was Jozy's first game back from injury. Two goals again - can't be bad. Am I alone in wondering what Advocaat would have made of him? I look at him playing for Klinsmann, and look at him playing for Poyet, and it's like looking at two completely different players. It doesn't matter now of course - it's all water under the bridge. But it's valid enough to wonder, I think. Deandre Yedlin looks like a good acquisition for us. Jesus, he's fast! But there's more to his game than that. And he gives us the option of moving Jones to the left if anything happens to PVA. I'm glad we've got him.
Am i alone wondering what DA would have made of him? Aye probably mate. As for this Yedin. If he keeps that knacker jones out of the team. Thats a good thing. A very good thing. Looking forward to seeing how this one goes.
Re Altidore, he is basically an enigma! Was it we didn't get the best out of him which has happened before with other players at SAFC or was he crap? Normally big strong physical players thrive in England but i just think he has zero technique. He isn't good enough to play in the Prem league. He was like a Nyron Nosworthy up front to me like.
For someone of such build, he didn't really use, a different sort of player. He definitely benefits from being allowed extra time and space.
Altidore's first goal came off the rebound from his own poorly taken penalty shot which was chest high and just to the right of center. On his second, the ball found him in a bit of space in front of the goal. Otherwise he was largely ineffective. He received a pass behind the defense, and near the penalty box, but his ridiculously heavy first touch sent the ball quickly over the by-line. He had three nice flick-ons, but when it came to conventional passing, he had trouble laying the ball off to the wing. He seems to lack the requisite speed, agility and touch of a premier league attacker. I wouldn't want him on the Seattle Sounders.
He was totally out of his depth in the premier league, what anybody sees in him is beyond me, he would look slow against a terracotta warriors eleven.
Can't see we are still talking about Altidore,He was,and still is sh"te,and he's nothing more to do with us.Please, let's forget about him!!!
Here is a link to Alitidore's second goal against Peru. It's not about Altidore, it's about Yedlin's pace on the right.
That's about as good as it gets from Altidore, the ball drops right onto his foot one metre out from an open goal and he's able to kick it in the right direction. It certainly looks like Yedlin is going to be very useful indeed.
Yedlin is the most exciting player the US has. His defense is woeful mind, but it is improving. Klinsmann loves to play him at RW when he wants to change the flow of the game. He's going to be a lot of fun to watch. Unfortunately, don't think Spurs have any intention of selling.
