I love the FA cup and if my own team won it it would be one of the best days of my life but for the top sides I don't think it should be considered a "major" trophy any more. The CL has sadly become the be all and end all so when you have, I'd guess, a majority of fans preferring fourth place to winning the cup, I don't think it can be considered major any more for the relevant teams.
Are you saying Spurs are irrelevant then as they have only ever been in CL once ? Actually they last won FA Cup in 1991 and the league title in 1962 so they basically are irrelevant then using your definition.
No I'm saying Spurs are on the second rung of teams for whom the cup would be a big achievement along with other big clubs like Everton and the, for want of a better word, emerging sides like Palace and Swansea. Arsenal are currently on the first rung but threatening to drop out if aspirations continue to be fourth place and the odd cup win,
The FA Cup didn't used to feature very highly in Wenger's plans, but since it became apparent to him that he isn't ever going to win the CL, or win the domestic title again, suddenly the FA Cup is a major part of his thinking, again! Funny that, eh!
The fairer test would be to add up the amount of money that Arsenal and Spurs have each spent in wages, during the Prem era. Walter has ****ed up so many attempts trying to wum Arsenal from a Spurs perspective, that he's admitted that he's formed an allegiance with the chavs instead.
