    Quite a comeback by Switzerland today, 2-0 down at home to Slovenia with 10 mins to play, winning the match 3-2.

    Our match with them next Tuesday at Wembley will a much better test for the team than San Marino.

    We should drop the granny shagger. We were better without him last night. The only reason he gets a game is because Roy thinks the fans like him. We play a system based all around him when last nights performance proves that we shouldn't. If he starts against Switzerland and they perform as they can, we will lose. He is not even a leader on the pitch, you need a captain who has the respect of the fans, players and opposition.

    It's long been the downfall of England managers who pick teams and formations to accommodate personalities rather than pick the best/in-form players for the best formation. Making Rooney the captain will be the millstone round Woy's neck. It would make far more sense not to have a permanent captain but pick a team and then pick a captain from the starting eleven each game...

    Not sure I agree with the last statement, I think every team needs a stable captain that they can rely on and that ain't Rooney. Agree with everything else. Trouble is, most England managers are scared of the gutter press and to drop the fat twat would stir up a hornets nest. Put to the football public, I reckon most would say he should be dropped, especially as we have qualified now. I won't happen of course, because Roy wants a 100% win rate on his CV for the campaign.

    There isn't currently a stand-out candidate for the Captain's job, perhaps John Stones in a couple of years time but we're a little short in that department. Joe Hart is perhaps the only player nailed-on for selection at present, a good side will have several 'captains' all over the pitch. Perhaps we're just lacking that when we go into the Finals of big tournaments and always come up short in vital matches, it's the difference between winners and losers at the highest level...

    We haven't had a decent national side since Euro '96. Note then that we had a plethora of strikers and didn't have to play the same system to accommodate any one of them. Unlike now, when we rely so heavily on Rooney. Better teams than are in our current group will suss us out. Expect more misery come next summer unless Roy has the balls to change things. Note also that the manager at Euro '96 was an ex Ranger!!

    It has just been suggested to me that Rooney was taken off in San Marino in order that he can break Bobby Charlton's record at Wembley in front of a larger crowd. Personally, I hope the scouse git never plays for England again.

    I see the usual complete bollocks is being spouted about England and Rooney.

    Nothing changes.

    We lack pace in the side that someone like Townsend could add. The reason for that is Rooney doesn't have any. Roy needs to think of something different.

    I agree. Rooney is a long way from being as great player as Charlton was. However, 49 goals for England is a great achievment no matter what is your opinion about him.

    <doh>

    Sterling/Walcott/Oxlaide-Chamberlaine/Welbeck......all either lightening quick or very quick.
    Lalaana is no slouch and Rooney isn't slow.

    With their first choice 11 England are lightening quick on the counter attack.

    All the players you have named are good. Problem is Roy tends to use then after Rooney has gone off. I reckon I could do him over 50 yards too.

    I'm sure we enjoyed Scotland's result, that really cheered me up. Be funny if Norn Iron and Wales qualify and they don't. I hope they do, been a long time coming for their fans.

    That Sweaty result has thrown a lifeline to Ireland. Its 50/50 between the 2 of them to make a Playoff although Poland aren't quite there yet.

    Must be a bit boring for you boys seeing as you walk your groups every 2 years. If only the R's would walk a thing or two :smile:
