I was pretty happy with the last couple of summers tbh. Didn't get it all right but made the right kind of movements and got in the right kind of numbers. We've also shifted lots of deadwood. Was quite happy with how this window started as well with Cech arriving but then it never turned into the transfer window it should have.
But then can't you appreciate that if a player is 'quality' according to your understanding of the word then that doesn't actually have to mean they're really very good at the top level? If we go by your meaning of 'quality' then yes, ok, Giroud is 'quality'. And still nowhere near good enough for Arsenal.
I think he is good enough for Arsenal, I just think he can't do it all on his own for an entire season. He hasn't been able to be consistent enough. Which is why I hoped we would have brought in another striker. I also think with our attacking style of play a really world class striker is what we need to complete the puzzle and I don't want us to end up with a load of almost good enough strikers getting in the way of the one that'll make the difference. Which is why I was disappointed that when the benzema deal fell through we didn't have a loan option lined up to fill in until we get one of our proper targets. Though maybe Campbell or Walcott will get a shot to make it there own? (Though I don't see either of them becoming the main cf tbh). I don't think we are likely to agree about the standard of Giroud
We're going round and round in circles here. No player is ever 'available'. Especially from the richer clubs. You need to bid a certain amount to get that player. Money talks. I don't like the fact that transfer fees are so high, but we can't risk falling behind the times to achieve some sort of egalitarian utopia. We're not in a position to know if a world-class striker will be allowed to leave their club or not and we're not in a position to be playing the waiting game, so we could have either gone big on one striker or bid a little less for the tier below. Either way, we needed a striker and the type of strikers that we have asked for have a proven track record at other clubs and they are of better calibre than Bendtner, Denilson and co, who were thrown into the team due to a calculated risk Wenger took as a result of what they did at youth level. So if you accept what Wenger says, then you have to hold him to account because he has the last say on whether the club should go after a player or not. Which essentially means he has played a huge role in our lack of activity in the market and he deserves criticism for that. I don't understand why you refuse to criticise him when he's had ample time to sort us out and appears to be satisfied with the level we're currently at.
Why does he deserve criticism, because he doesn't think there were any strikers/DMs available that he wanted? you want him to be criticised because he doesn't agree with your opinion?
I have aimed some criticism in that I think we should have signed another striker I understand there are reasons why we might not have got the targets we wanted etc but I'm dissapointed we didn't have some kind of stop gap fall back plan if we didn't get our targets. Again I think our transfer team have at times not been up to scratch, same with Utd in recent years, transfers seem to take longer than they need to.
Surprised you did not put a 'lol' in that comment. That 'lol' pretty much sums up your contribution to this board. This time next year Rodney, this time next year.
